When I first started coming back to El Jadida in the late '80s, if you wanted somewhere that was welcoming and comfortable, but at reasonable prices, this was the place to come. I remember that one winter, they even provided heaters as it was so cold. The original half-owner, who was British, had died only shortly before and his Moroccan partner, who already owned half and inherited the rest, was keeping up the standards. Not only was it THE place to stay, but THE place to eat. That's all gone by the board now. As far as I understand, the owner eventually leased the premises to someone else who has different ideas. In addition, the Regie de Tabac and its garden have been replaced by an ugly block of flats which encroaches right on one of the side walls of the hotel, cutting off all possibility of light on that side. ||||The restaurant spaces have gone. The eating has been replaced by drinking - both spaces have been made into bars, mainly men only and men who drink to get drunk. It's no worse than any of the cheap bars in town, but having known it before, it's sticks in my throat. It's to maximise profits, I know. It's obviously better to have a full couple of bars every night than rely on seasonal guests who might want to eat or not.||||So, very disappointing. I don't think this is welcoming any more, indeed, I think most people would be put off by coming into reception and seeing the clientèle...
Read moreThis is hands down the best hotel in El Jadida. The staff were incredibly welcoming and kind, offering some of the best service I’ve ever experienced. The location is unbeatable, just a five-minute walk to the beach. We even received complimentary breakfast at the hotel’s own beachfront coffee shop, Les Vagues, which came with an incredible view. If you’re staying at the hotel, you also get access to the coffee shop’s beach area, which was such a bonus.
