I want to start by saying I’m a level 7 local guide on google and have done well over 150 reviews, and do not enjoy writing negative ones, but In this case I can do nothing but . The staff,on the other hand, all of them throughout our brief encounter were friendly and courteous, but the photos of hotel L’ Inglesia were most likely taken when first opened and are not representative of how it looks as I write this review. The place is in desperate need of freshening up and a good cleaning. It was December when we were to check in and after walking through a trash strewn dirt lot to get to the old church where our room was we where shown a large dark and very cold thread barren room , paint peeling off the wall and not in a “cool”and intentional way. I believe the intent of the decor was restoration hardware meets mid century modern industrial chic. Thing is, that all needs to be dusted, as my photos and video will demonstrate. After expressing our displeasure in the room, we were shown to others all in the same condition, including the last one with a squished cockroach on the bathroom floor, inadequate amount of lamps, some missing lightbulbs and a broken chair, Keep in mind there is no heating nor Airconditioning also. All the common areas furniture was covered in a black dust , coffee and side tables the wall molding and display cabinets all unkept. In addition we were expected, we had reservations and were told the place was booked for the Holidays, but not a light was turned on in the place. It was spooky, it being an old church and all. It gave us both an uneasy feeling. We got the impression the owner of the property hadn’t been around in a while, or had just lost interest in the place. Luckily we found a room in an amazing 5 star Riad just...
Read moreOur three days in El Jadida was after the summer season, but it was well worth the visit, our last three days of our three-week Moroccan itinerary. We stayed at L'Iglesia, a former Portuguese church, right in the historic Portuguese Citadel, with the Atlantic Ocean in view. The hotel is comprised of two buildings--the church itself and another architecturally beautiful historic building nearby. The furnishings were authentic Art Deco and mid-century chairs, couches, and lighting, of incredible intrinsic value. There was a vast collection of fabulous vintage radios and stunning hanging fixtures and chandeliers. The sheets and pillowcases on my bed were hand embroidered. An early morning visit to the Portuguese Cistern is a highlight of a visit to El Jadida, with the sun streaming in and creating rainbow decorations everywhere. A walk on the promenade and on the beach is also wonderfully exhilarating, with the salt air on your face and the warm waves on your feet. On one of our days, we took a taxi to Azemmour, a small town on the river. There were beautiful alleys and fantastic murals at every turn. We then took a taxi to the Mazagan Beach Resort, where we had a delicious lunch at Oasis, the outdoor cafe near the pool. The small Medina in El Jadida was very authentic, with local shoppers taking care of their errands. ||Al Bahri, a local seafood restaurant right across from the central square and the citadel, was a perfect choice for dinner. Soup, large salads and amazing grilled sardines were all delicious. Our three-day visit to El Jadida was a great way to end our...
Read moreThe hotel is split into 2 buildings. The main church and the consulate. The consulate is the main building where the reception & restaurant are. The church is the spectacular interior you see published everywhere. During my stay, my room was in the Consulate building, and the church was vacant, due to low occupancy. // We had only breakfast in the hotel/restaurant. // The staff were friendly. // As the church was not the main building, and most guests are accommodated in the consulate building, we were very disappointed, as we want to stay in the church building. We went and visit the church, and it does not a lot of dusting and cleaning. // After staying in some other beautiful Riad, our room, for the price, we were not...
