!Careful this place is a scam!
My girlfriend and me booked the "best'" room at Hotel Majestic, with a bathroom attached to our room, for 7 nights. We knew that with a price like that and so many bad reviews we cant expect much, but wanted to give the place a chance because of the location right in the Medina and also because we just needed a place to sleep and didnt want to spend much time in the room anyway.
Big mistake.
The staff seems nice at beginning but showed his real face pretty quickly....
When he handed us the room key i asked if it fits the main entrance too which it does not. We came to Essaouira to visit some friends and spend long evenings with them,so i asked how to get inside late at night.
He answered "we close the door at night, what do you want outside at night anyway?" Which already was a pretty weird question to ask from a stranger :( We told him that we want to spend time with friends and be at the beach or in the city, which he answered with:"the city is dead at night and the beach is windy so you can come here when i want to go to bed,why do you want to be out so late?" ....
That already was super insulting and invasive and replied that we dont have to tell him where we go. Anyway we already payed for the room online, had a long travel and just wanted to get rid of our backpacks.
Also we already knew from his unpleasent behavior that we would never get a refund so we tried to make the best out of it.
The rooms are not at all what you can see online. The sink of the shower stinks pretty hard and when you shower the whole bathroom fills up with water really quick which nearly flooded our room... But still its better than to book a regular room and share a tiny bathroom in the hallway with a toilet and shower in 1,5m² and with no real sink to brush your teeth or wash your hands.... (Photo below)
So we were happy with our stinky hole of a bathroom :)
The only good thing about the place is the beautiful view fro the rooftop, but you cant really enjoy it because the staff refuses to clean it for which seems like months and it is completeley full of seagull shit. Also he empties the ashtray on the roof, maybe because he is too lazy to bring it downstairs to the trash...
All of that would have even been okay with us,since we are both pretty hardened from previous low budget travels and just wanted a place to sleep anyway. But the reception guys behavior made us leave after one night...
On day 2 we again told him (really politely) that we booked a hotel, not a beautiful riad,to come and go as we want to and that nowhere in the internet it is told that you get a bedtime from the receptionist. He then replied that if we want to come afterhours we can arrange it with him or his colleague or knock at the door.
So we wanted to go outside late on the second night and went downstairs very quietly. Out of the darkness comes the receptionist, wrapped in his blanket and shouted at us:"where do you wanna go?!?! Why do you want to leave?!? And when exactly will you be back?"
That was enough for us!
I told him that it is none of his business where we are going and that this is the most rude behavior for a hotel you can imagine. That made him even more angry so we just left the hotel immediately. We then had to stay outside the whole night (in january) without any chance ro return to our room, our backpacks and all our stuff.
After a cold night outside,we returned in the morning at 08:00am,just grabbed our backpacks, told him we check out and booked another hotel. He refused to give us any refund and kept on being totally rude and undiplomatic.
So the only thing you can do is leave a full trashbin for this lazy guy to empty, leave a bad review online to warn other travellers and try to be positive and continue your journey.
Stay as far away from this place as you can if you want a relaxing holiday in one of the most beautiful cities in the world :)
Be safe and thank you...

This so-called “hotel” was honestly closer to a nightmare than accommodation.
The basics were missing or disgusting: towels had to be requested from reception, no soap was provided, and toilet paper was almost always running out. The toilet was filthy, often left with pee and even feces, and the stench carried all the way to our room. The shower was rusty, moldy, and full of humidity because of no ventilation. Furniture was old, broken, and depressing. WiFi did not work at all.
Sleeping was impossible. The rooms are not soundproof, doors are so squeaky that every time another guest went in or out, we woke up. Being in the Medina only made it worse — constant noise, even with the windows shut.
The atmosphere felt more like a prison than a holiday. There was even a midnight curfew. The front door was locked after 12:00, and when we returned the receptionist smugly told us he had forgotten about us because the other guests were asleep. When we asked if we could come back later than midnight, his “answer” was: “You can come back at 2, 3, 5… if I hear the knock, I’ll open.” Meaning we could have been locked out in the street.
To make matters worse, the night receptionist was rude, sarcastic, and downright creepy — at one point even asking us where we “wanted to go at night,” as if it was suspicious for guests to enjoy the city after dark.
Dirty, noisy, smelly, with rude staff and prison rules — Majestic Hotel is one of the worst places you could possibly stay. Avoid it at all costs. There are far better hotels in Essaouira for the same...
Read moreEssaouira is my favorite city in Morocco 🇲🇦 & majestic is a hidden gem 💎 ||||For a very budget friendly price your getting a huge room that's cleaned daily, friendly hospitable staff, good wifi (in common areas). 2 separate lobbies. This is tallest building (aside from the mosque spires) in the medina which rewards you with the most spectacular panoramic view; from the roof you can see the ocean, the city, the mountains, everything with no visual obstructions. ||This is a calm peaceful area inside the medina walls which gives you plenty of peace and quiet in the evenings. Yet there is plenty to see and do. A multitude of shops and restaurants to please your palate no matter what you're craving. From local fare to Italian, Japanese.. whatever you desire it's within a short walk. The beach is not even 5 minutes walk. ||||Some folks have complained in views of this hotel in regards to amenities, but all you have to do is ASK THE FRONT DESK!! They're extremely personable and accommodating. Do you need toilet paper? A towel? Glasses? Silverware? An ashtray? Ask them. They're happy to oblige (no extra charge!!) ||||No, there's no television in the room. But you're on vacation. Why do you want to sit in front of a tv? Anyway. They do have one in the lobby. ||||They are also polyglots, I've heard English, French, Spanish, Darija, & standard Arabic. Maybe Italian but I'm not sure on that one. Just try.. they'll find a way to communicate with you! ||||I highly recommend this place & ive stayed in several different hotels & roads...
