Butterfly Space – Moroccan & World Cuisine — Restaurant in Essaouira

We had dinner at this restaurant ,it was a frustrating and unpleasant experience from start to finish.

1 - Service That Was Borderline Hostile: The food took over an hour to arrive, and when we politely brought it up, the waiter snapped back with: “I told you guys we were understaffed and you still accepted to come.” he never said anything like that. Instead of taking any responsibility, he acted like he was doing us a favor by letting us sit there. At one point, before the food even arrived, he actually asked if we wanted the check ,clearly trying to push us out. The attitude was completely unacceptable and made us feel like we were a burden, not guests.

2- Terrible Food: When the food finally showed up, it wasn’t even worth the wait. The kefta tagine was bland, barely seasoned, and honestly tasted like someone just gave up halfway through cooking. We were still hungry afterward and had to find somewhere else to eat.

Pressure to Leave: We asked for a fruit salad, and even then, the waiter asked if we were « sure » we still wanted it, again, a not-so-subtle hint that he just wanted us gone.

The whole experience was disrespectful, the food was bad, and the service was downright rude. This place made us feel unwelcome, ignored, and insulted. I can’t recommend it to anyone, and I won’t be...

My wife and I enjoyed a fantastic dinner here. There is a nice variety of options to choose from on the menu, incorporating traditional Moroccan dishes with more modern and internationally influenced options. I opted for one of the three course dinner menu options, which included a delicious Moroccan salad, a tasty fish tajine and dessert or mint tea. I chose mint tea as my wife and I had already set our hearts on the bubble waffle (more on that later). My wife ordered the chicken burger which in her words, “was fresh and delicious with a delightfully toasted seed bun.” As mentioned, we capped the mea with the bubble waffle with Nutella and chocolate syrup. Let me tell you, that was something else, so Delicious! I’m already planning to go back for another :) The ambiance of the restaurant is also very classy and tastefully done. The place is very clean, elegant, and comfortable. Last, but definitely not least, the service was fantastic. Salah is super friendly and very professional, he took great care of us! The owner, Jimmy, was working and was a most welcoming and friendly host. We’ll definitely be going back! Knowing our diner was bad, the owner hided and had his staff taking care of the bill. This man should have come to our table, accepted the kitchen made a fault and presented an alternative meal or something. We are experienced restaurateurs and the atmosphere is not right here. The theme is unclear with old records stuck to the wall and rusty screwdrivers next to plastic plant. The owner runs around like a nervous wreck. His staff informed us lam cutlets were finished but then they were available. I think we got the bones left from the previous customers braised in some butter. The salad was without any dressing, the fries were uncooked. I had not 1 decent bite of meat, and ate the fries while I was hungry. Presentation of mixed grill is poor, cold and minimal. Same bad fries and salad.

Talking to us would have given you an opportunity to learn how to handle mistakes, which happens everywhere. Would have given you advise to create a butterfly atmosphere, getting the waauw effect. And get decent chairs they are uncomfortable for bigger people.
