Hotel Latha is located in a street of the same name in Yangon. This place is reachable by walk in 10 minutes by the Backpackers from the central downtown.(about 10-12 streets across). This area itself is in the downtown. There are about 20 air-conditioned dormitory beds located at the 3rd floor of an Apartment Building.
This is the cheapest dormitory in the downtown less-than 3 USD in the Water Festival season. The price may be dynamic in off-seasons. I am not sure.
I visited the interior of the Hostel. It is maintained clean. The two tier beds are arranged across the room with safety locker at the base and curtain. No food service is available at room. (Many food shops & restaurant available at arm's distance in ever streets of Yangon downtown)
I noticed only Europeans ( with Budget plans) occupied the dorms.
Pros: cheapest and clean.can be booked on line too. Easily accessable from Railway station 1km. From Main Market half km.
Cons: one has to climb the steep steps to reach the hostel - no lift. No problem for backpacker. Not advisable for...
Read moreWe booked here 2 bed, 6 weeks ahead and advised we would arrive at 19.00 o'clock. When we arrived at 19.10 and went up the steep stairs and opened the front-door into the hostel, were we quite supprised to littlerly step into the dormroom itself and stare into a older guys ass who was getting changed with his curtains open.
After doing the doing the check-in at the desk, what was in the dormroom as wel and is open 24/7, and filling everything in were we told that our beds were still in use and we had to wait a bit. This while there were around 10 signs hanging around saying the check out time was at 14.00.
After waiting, and looking for alternative places in the area to stay as we were quite tired after an 14 hour journey, did they come to us at 20.10 that our beds should be free at 21.00.
Well at 20.40 they came back and asked if it was ok for the two of us to share 1 bed for the night and maybe we get the second bed the next night.
As you can guess did we left and went to an hotel for what we paid a bit more for an private...
Read moreThis was a pretty underwhelming hostel. The hostel is more or less one giant room--reception, common area (loose term), and walls of capsule beds all in one area. There are signs requesting you to stay quiet between ten and seven, but the staff didn't do much to enforce this and were actually at times contributing to the noise. One of the staff members chose a bed next to mine to watch videos in without headphones. He also answered his phone at full volume in there. The bathrooms were okay ish but the toilets were constantly wet and there were no mats to dry your feet, so everything gets kind of slightly muddy and gross. It was a pretty uncomfortable place to stay and I wound up leaving after a night for a comparably proceed place with dorm rooms separate from the reception and with...
