We stayed in the 2nd Okinawa (the one further from sule pagoda) thinking it was a good location : close from sule area and park but not too close from the pagoda 24h chanting mantras. |So it could have been a quiet place, if it was not fir the running teenage-team. No adults in here for the whole 2 days we have been in (so it is a very cool place for the young staff to work in!) But it then lacks of respect for the guests that wake up early and thus, go to bed early : singing loud, laughing louder, tv on...seemed to be in the staff house and not a guests house. The problem is the walls are very thin so you can't avoid the noise (We slept with ear plugs for 2 nights.)|Then dirty rooms (once more : teenage boys staff are often not the best to do this job!). Don't ever think to use the dusty mosquito nets if you tend to have allergy or are a minimum sensitive...|Good points though : breakfast, reception welcoming (also a teenage) and location.||To resume it is a good place for young people travelling on a budget (as Yangon is very expensive!!) but not much for thirties and/or older couples or single travellers that look for...
Read moreOk, so there are apparently two Okinawa guest houses. Both within 100m of each other. Review for this is for guest house number one.
The guest house appears to be run by children. The person checking you in is a 16 year old boy who's English is just enough to check you in. That's all. I actually made a booking from Agoda and apparently they had no record of it. But still had a room available. So lucky? I guess. The door to the room is an old fashioned Key and lock system that doesn't work without jiggling the door and key for 5mins to try find the sweet spot.
The rooms have no hot water. Only cold. The power shuts off in the rain and you'll get a torch to use in the room.
The bed has bugs and you'll wake up with bite marks over you. The bed and mosquito net both had blood stains on them. I ended buying a bed sheet myself to use while staying here from the local shopping. Also no wifi at all.
This is honestly just a terrible place to attempt to stay. There are a lot better options for the money. The double room was 25,000 Myanmar money for one night....
Read moreInitially booked for two nights. On arrival the room was very dirty; cockroaches (dead), stains, dirt. When asking for a new room, this was not possible, they said this was the last available room,..which later turned out it was absolutely not.|Then the door lock was broken, after an hour waiting it was repaired by putting a padlock on the outside. So the room couldn’t be locked from the inside. Bed: again dirty: mud stains (i think they were) and even dried blood stains on sheet and sheet cover, when asking for new one they took a used one from other room. Again dirty, did not accept and asked for new one. Now one was given from ‘clean’ pile. Even this supposed to be clean one was dirty.|Bathroom: not surprisingly dirty again, it hasn’t been cleaned for months (or even ever?) and no hot water, not any room has hot water. This was not mentioned on any booking website. Staff: this guesthouse looks like being run by children, who prefer to play around instead of running a guesthouse. Next early morning we moved...
