The service we received at Hotel Sandalwood was legendary...beyond anything I've ever experienced before. Owned and run by the ever-cheerful and ever-helpful husband and wife team of Yadu and Savita, Hotel Sandalwood is a four or five storey, ten room hotel that is situated in the heart of "Damside", close to a good range of tasty eateries and cafes.
The hotel is just one year old, so the decor is new and welcoming. The rooms are spacious and well-equipped. Bottled water is available free of charge and reasonablly priced meals can be provided on request. The hotel has excellent WiFi... we did a speed test during our stay and the speed was 93 mbps down and 76 mbps up. Most of the rooms also have an amazing view of the snow-capped Himalayas.
We stayed for 11 nights and Yadu and Savita really went out of their way to make us feel part of their family. They collected us from the airport when we arrived and dropped us off when we left... on both occasions for no charge.
The only minor challenge we had was that on a few occasions we didn't have piping hot water. However, this problem was partly due to the intermittent main power supply during our stay. Even our friends who were staying at Pokhara's only large five star hotel at the same time as us had intermittent hot water. We told Yadu about this and he is planning to upgrade the system so that this doesn't happen in future.
All in all, we had a great stay and I'm looking forward to...
Read moreHotel Sandalwood is an amazing hotel with lovely rooms. Yadu and his family make this feel like home. We stayed for a month and were blessed with Yadu and his wife’s (Savitri) kindness. They were always ready to help and offer advice, support and recommendations beyond what one would expect of a typical hotel owner. The rooms have an amazing view of the Annapurna range and are located in Damside which is a beautiful area adjacent to Fewa Lake and some lovely affordable restaurants such as Little Tibet as well as a Dragon Mart for grocery supplies and a Himalayan Java for coffee. Lakeside is a brisk walk or an even brisker taxi ride away which is a very accessible tourist location. Yadu and his amazing establishment and family were the best choice we made in visiting Pokhara. Yadu used to run an agency called Cosmic Trekking agency so he is very well-versed in the length and cost of certain hikes and good tour guides! Overall we loved staying at Hotel Sandalwood and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in...
Read moreWe spent a total of 7 nights, 5 nights before trekking and 2 after trekking with Yadu and family...and it was a highlight of our trip to Nepal.
In addition to the well equipped rooms with beautiful mountain views, the Yadu, Sabita, and staff including Niruta will do everything in their power to make your experience enjoyable e.g. morning tea, unlimited drinking water, jeep rides into Lake Side.
We enjoyed simply spending time chatting away with the family including Jeevan (Yadu & Sabita's son)... sipping team, talking about Nepal, the world, and raising kids.
It was a wonderful experience, which I hope many others are...
