Kerikeri Court Motel — Hotel in Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community

Adequate but lacking attention to detail.

1. We ran out of toilet paper at 10:30 pm on our first night. There was no spare roll. We rang the office mobile no. No answer. Left a message. No contact, no toilet paper before we went out at 8:30 am the next day. No apology or acknowledgment. I double checked - I did ring the correct number. Answerphone didn’t identify it as the motel phone (“the person you are trying to reach is not available”).

2. Beds were spongy and unsupportive. Left one of us with a sore back. Linen fine.

3. After our rooms were serviced a fresh replacement dishcloth seemed to be missing - until we found it left in the bathroom, next to the toilet. Not ideal.

4. Needs a visit from a plumber. Two issues. Bathroom basin tap was loose and very dirty under that fixture. And the kitchen sink hot water tap requires many turns before any water comes out (also many to turn it off). Bathroom liquid soap and moisturiser smelled nice though.

5. most surfaces clean but kitchen window sill dusty/dirty. Skirting boards too - all need cleaning.

6. Tea selection a bit stingy. Booked for three people but only two plain tea bags (and two of everything except a single plunger coffee sachet).

Good stay but needed some maintenance. Outdoor table outside our room was badly buckled (and isn't the only one) so hard to eat on if sitting on the deck. Compendium in rooms are very out of date. It states there were Sky Movies but there was not. It also states daily room service but I had to ask for it after the fourth night as our bin was full, we were running out of toilet paper and needed clean towels. Had to go down twice over a 7 night stay to ask for more toilet paper. Was told we were supposed to let them know if we required room service the night before if it was needed. Bad service. Pool was nice but the stones around it are sharp to walk on...

We booked out 11 rooms for a Waitangi weekend work stay and it was an excellent choice on what is probably one of the busiest weekend of the year. The units were that older concrete block style but were spotless, really spacious, and just moments walk from town and supermarket. The fully stocked kitchenette and layout of having the single beds in the back bedroom with the queen bed in the front lounge area would make it ideal for a family stay.
