This place clearly puts a very high priority on making $ at the expense of guest comfort. There are so many tiny cabins everywhere. Very crowded. | I found the reception staff to be friendly & helpful.| I was shocked to see only 1 sink to support the use of 6 toilets in the toilet block next to my tent site 23. Twice I had to move aside while brushing my teeth so that other women could wash their hands. Not good. Totally inadequate. Also only 1 shower in that block. Again, totally inadequate for the huge number of people on site. | The kitchen is also tiny for such a huge number of people. I did not see any lounge to hang out in. However, maybe I missed it as I was not offered a map & nor was the lady checking in before me. That is not good. They should offer everybody a map so they know where they’re going. Or at least post a map outside on a sign.| There is black mold in the one shower in the female block…next to the window & the seat & floor in that shower stall are grotty & the seat needs fresh paint. Great water pressure though.| They have crammed in so many cabins yet don’t provide enough space allocation to the basic requirements of their guests. Profit making over guest comfort. Not good. | Toxic diffuser sticks at check in desk & in all cabins said the reception staff. 1 in every 3 people are highly allergic to the unregulated toxic chemicals they contain: VOCS, carcinogens, hormone disrupters & neurotoxins. Not happy to have 1 right at the check in desk. I had to leave the door open & wear my mask but still those chemicals made my eyes & face burn. | Air fresheners do not freshen the air they pollute it and cover up smells with toxic chemicals. Open a window instead. If you are not aware of the toxic chemicals these items contain check out the free website of Dr Ann Steinman at the University of Melbourne as she is a top researcher on this issue. She has a free fact sheet in the dangers of air fresheners.| I really would have preferred to stay in a cabin the two nights that I was in Hamilton but I didn’t specifically because the reception staff told me those chemicals are put into all your cabins. So they missed out on more of my money because of these unnecessary chemicals that they pollute their accommodation with. I got a tent site instead.| Research from Australia shows that the third of the populace who are sensitive to these chemicals prefer not to go to businesses that will expose them to these chemicals so I am not alone in my concern.| I was really shocked that I had to pay like $40 bucks or $49, I can’t remember, for a tent site for one person. That is shocking. In Kaikoura I had a beach site for my tent and they only charged me $20. I think their prices are ridiculous for the poor level of comfort they provide guests. I was very clear to tell the woman I was using the tent site by myself and that I think that rate is really high for one person. That is a total turn off. It feels like Price gouging. | Would I stay this site again? Not unless I had to. It’s too tightly crammed in. Too expensive for a tent site for one person. There’s not enough of the basic facilities - not enough room for people. It clearly seems the emphasis is all on making money and not guests being comfortable so I wouldn’t stay there again unless absolutely necessary. |I don’t think they have any competition in the Hamilton area so maybe that’s why they function this way but it’s...
Read moreI had a very negative experience with this campsite. I had booked and fully paid $184 for two nights in a cabin for myself and my two children, but then needed to cancel, and I was only refunded $45.00. I contacted the campsite management eight days prior to our dates of stay. We were to be there from a Thursday to a Saturday, and I rang them on the Wednesday morning of the week before. My son was to be attending a training camp in Hamilton for a NZ sports team he is in, but the organisers had notified us that Wednesday morning that he now needed to attend a training in Wellington. I contacted the campsite immediately and explained this, but was told I was only eligible for $45 refund, as I had booked online. They said that had I booked over the phone, I would have only paid one night's accommodation, and would have paid the rest upon arrival at the campsite. Effectively, I would have been given a much more significant refund had I not booked online! This seems illogical, since booking online saves everyone time on the phone. I asked the management to consider my situation and they were unwilling to offer me any more than $45, saying that as a "gesture of goodwill" they would waiver a $30 admin fee. So on another day, I may have only been refunded $15.00! I have written to HCHP and suggested that they amend their cancellation policy to include management discretion in considering refunds, and to be more in keeping with other campsites. For eg. Top 10 Holiday Parks, who in this situation would have refunded 75% of the amount paid, rather than keeping 75% of it for themselves, which is what Hamilton City Holiday Parks have done in my case. I have been very offended by the way they...
Read moreAt 10pm on Friday the 30th I arrived at the campground with my 12 year old daughter after having just flew up from Dunedin.
We were incredibly tired and in need of a good rest.
I had emailed earlier in the day and was expecting a late check in email but when we arrived I realised i hadn't received an email and was forced to wake the manager, Mark I believe if my memory serves me correctly.
Mark was asleep at the time but came promptly and was polite despite having just been woken up.
Mark then checked the records and advised I had booked the wrong night and was actually a day early.
He then went onto advise that me the camp was completely full.
This was obviously very concerning for me and I felt quite overwhelmed about what situation me and my daughter found myself ourselves in.
I don't know the area nor have any connections that I could have called on, on top of this it was 10pm and the likely hood of getting alternative accomadation was next to none.
Mark however realizing the situation offered us a house that was located down Emerdale Lane, he said it had just been cleaned and was part of a different bussiness but he didn't want to see us out on the street.
This was a life saver and I'm hugely grateful, not to mention it saved a very awkward conversation explaining the situation to my wife.
So to summarise, im absolutely stoked and very thankful about the service i recieved from Hamilton City Holiday Park but more specifically Mark, he is an absolute legend and saved my arse big...
