Really surprised by the recent negative reviews for this motel, as we had a good experience, albeit we only stayed for one night so didn't have long to appreciate it and didn't need to use the kitchenette.|We arrived at 1215 and were very grateful to find that our 1st floor ocean front room with spa bath was available, well before the stipulated check in time, as we were booked to be picked up by the Grape Escapes Vineyard Tour 15 mins later and had anticipated only being able to leave the car there.|When we got back to the motel early evening we used the washer and dryer facilities and also enjoyed the lovely spa bath at the back of the room which felt like a real treat. The room itself was nicely decorated and spacious.|We then headed out for dinner and managed to get a late table at the very nice Hunger Monger restaurant, which is about 15mins walk into the town.|We walked into town again first thing in the morning and enjoyed breakfast at the Albion Canteen and had a quick look around town at the art deco buildings. |With what little time we had we enjoyed the ocean view from the hotel. The beach is stony so not really one to sit on. The hotel has its own car park via a driveway that goes through to the back, and is also accessible from the parallel road behind. The roads are very quiet at night so no issues there.|We enjoyed our short but sweet stay and would be happy to recommend the hotel, although as it was part of a month's touring package I don't know what the rate was...
Read moreWe arrived into Napier on a sunny morning, and after a quick shuttle ride arrived at the Pebble Beach Motor Inn. We were greeted at reception and as we had arrived early that morning, we enquired if we could store our luggage until check in time (yes, btw). However we were advised they may have a room available right away, and after a bit of shuffling around they had a room sorted for us (at 9am!). What a superb start to our holiday! Check in was completed and we where handed a goodie basket of snacks, yum!
The room was on the top floor of the complex, off the middle of the building. Access was either a few sets of stairs, or conveniently a lift that services all three floors. Upon entering the room, as you pass the well equipped kitchen, and modern bathroom you are greeted by the magnificent view out of the double sliding doors to ocean across the road. The room also includes a large in room spa both, perfect for relaxing in while enjoying the few. My only complaint would be with the TV, as the reception / sound was a bit average. Our room included wifi, which we had no issues accessing and appeared to be fast and stable.
The Pebble Beach Motor Inn is well positioned to access most of the attractions around the Napier town center, with nothing feeling to far for walking distance. The promenade is directly across the road and is perfect for a stroll / cycle down.
We loved our time here, and will definitely return. A perfect...
Read moreBeware the dangerous motel elevator... Getting trapped in a closed, metal cage was definitely not a memory we will choose to remember about our visit to Napier. Beware the dangerous motel elevator, because when the metal door shut, the elevator would neither move nor open back up! We used the "emergency" phone located in the elevator which simply rang...no answer! We later learned that the phone only rang to the motel's office and was not answered when the office was not staffed. Does that make any sense??? We kicked the inside of the metal elevator door to generate as much noise as possible until we were rewarded by a guest staying in a nearby room who responded by opening the elevator door from the outside and permitted us to escape!
Otherwise, primarily due to their excellent location on Marine Parade and their super-helpful and friendly housekeeping staff, the motel would be acceptable. Without the overriding elevator experience, we could even have overlooked the issue of noise from adjoining rooms, the relatively useless and poorly equipped kitchenette and a spa tub taking up almost a third of the useable living space in the room. While we are not sure what previously contributed to the motel's rating, we could definitely never...
