This motel is pretty average to be honest. They've tried, but it's lacking the "extra mile" factor so common in other motels, despite the price. I was booked in by a nice but very quiet young man (no welcoming chat at all). The rooms on the parking side look less than appealing, but they're ok once you're in. Absolutely freezing - would have been nice to have had the heat pump turned on prior to arrival. I had the heat pump working overtime at 30deg all night, and the room was pleasantly warm, not hot. Nice, private outdoor area out the back with a spa/bath. Could do with a new table and maybe matching chairs, a sweep up and some weeding...||||Good size rooms. Interesting way of laying out the furniture, some of which is well past it's prime. All the cutlery, glassware and crockery look much like they've come from the local op shop, but they're clean and chip-free. ||||No power point in the bathroom, and the lighting in there was a bit lacking. Shower wasn't ideal - a bit on the cool side and needs a new shower head. No extra blankets or pillows. No hairdryer, but four different heating options - heat pump, wall heaters, a small fan heater and a larger stand-alone heater. ||||A pet peeve of mine is those little sachets of long life milk - I hate them. I found the bed a bit solid, but slept ok (I was pretty tired!), and no electric blanket. Curtains were falling off the rail and someone had been a little over-enthusiastic with bleach I think, so some odd marks on the drapes. ||||3 sachets of sugar for a room that sleeps 4 is unusual. Interesting 1980's bedside tables, and a "different" touch was the spare loo roll on top of the seat. Oh, and the loo roll holder is put on the wall upside down. Motel is OK but not sure if...
Read moreThis was a great place to stay within Rotorua as it’s close (by drive) to all the shops and food as well as the main tourist attractions such as the skyline and a few of the pools and hot springs. You would definitely need a car to get around but everything is very close within 5min-15min drive (depending what you want to see). I’ve put location as 4 star as you most likely need a car or Ubers to get around as well as the wifi being quite bad. The service was easy and the staff kept the rooms clean and tidy with fresh towels and body wash etc each day. The rooms felt very secure and it was easy to gain access. The wifi was incredibly slow and dropped out often. The tv worked and you can sign into your own streaming services with the smart tv (just don’t forget to log out!)
The kitchen has a stove top and a pot and pan as well as a fridge, kettle and microwave.
The room we had had one bed in its own separate room and the other bed in the lounge room. Great for travelling couple friends or families. There is also a spa bath in the outside area (private to the unit) and a table and chairs outside.
The room also had a table and a couch near the tv.
Definitely had everything you would need. And was clean and tidy.
Also an ironing board, iron and an extra blanket if it’s cold. Lots of power points and aircon as well.
Good place to stay, if you sus out transport or hire a car! Potential of walking to most of the places but it would be about a 30min walk at minimum and it’s not scenic.
Also quite accessible, there is a slight step up to the room and off the car park. It seems spacious enough for a wheelchair (uncertain if the shower would be suitable) however from memory I think it...
Read moreAfter a frustrating experience at another motel "The Coachman Spa Motel" which is a health hazard to the public (please check other reviews on my profile) , we sought a more affordable option for our return journey, as we had previously spent thousands at a beautiful luxury hotel in Tauranga. We didnt need anything fancy as we were returning home the following day.
Our initial booking at the Coachman Spa Hotel proved to be a significant disappointment, prompting an immediate departure due to its substandard conditions. It was literally a health hazard, I think we spent our 5 minutes at this hotel trying to find another place to stay. Upon discovering the Aurora Motel, we quickly secured a room, and the relief we felt upon entering was palpable.
The room at the Aurora Motel was impeccably maintained, exuding a fresh and clean aroma. The decor featured modern furniture, and the bathroom was newly renovated and spotlessly clean. The kitchen was well-equipped, and the thoughtful inclusion of six hot chocolate sachets was a delightful surprise, Where else have you ever seen more than 2 hot choc sachets?. The bed provided a restful night's sleep. The rooms also featured lovely big outdoor patios, ours had a spa pool which would’ve been great if staying longer.
Considering the overall quality and amenities, a four-star rating for the Aurora Motel seems appropriate. It provides a significantly superior experience compared to other establishments in the area. For travelers seeking a clean, comfortable, and well-appointed affordable lodging option, the Aurora Motel is highly recommended, especially when compared to other hotels.
