Spotlight Kapiti — Hotel in North Island

Not at home in a home store.

This isn't my kind of place. Some people love looking at fabrics, etc... I'd much rather be outdoors or in a camping shop at a push.

Still, needs must, when you are looking for curtains. And if you are looking for curtains - then they definitely have them. And lots of them.

More shades of gray-ish than you could hope for. Hard to be critical of Spotlight for stocking dull curtains when they are really only playing to the market, and their range is no more or less dull than anyone else's. Really, we are all to blame.

Why then the 2 stars I hear you cry?

My issue here was one of shop admin. The signs did not match the stock. Everything was nicely displayed in a totally different location than the shelf labeling would lead you to believe. A bewildering wall of gray-ish, supported by an incoherent set of signs, prices, and discounts.

My stress levels hit peak shop, and we ended up buying curtains online from the car park.

Everything is correctly labeled on...

I recently bought 7x packaged netting curtains at Spotlight, Kapiti. I decided to hang them this past weekend, and realised the colour I had selected was not suitable. I no longer had proof of purchase, however still decided to approach the store to see if I were able to exchange my purchase for a more suitable colour in the range. I was absolutely amazed at the fantastic service I received from Nicola, one of the department supervisors. She searched my purchases up on my Spotliglht VIP card. I returned my purchase and was given a store credit for the amount I paid. Nicola placed an order for the netting curtains I requested and I was contacted the following day advising the order had arrived and was ready for pickup. I did not have to pay in anything extra, and I felt Nicola really went the extra mile to sort this for me. She was very helpful and nothing seemed to be a problem or issue. I previously commented: "Very expensive ... $85 for 4 x rolls of cotton, a packet of silver bobbins, and some tailors chalk. I wish I'd bought off Trade Me." However, I would like to add that on sale days there are definite bargains to be had. All of what they sell is premium quality, so it is worth spending a bit extra in any case.

I visited the store yesterday (23/6/25) and the lady on the fabric (cutting) counter couldn't have been nicer and more helpful to deal with - she is a huge asset to the store. The staff in general in this store are all really lovely, too - they're incredibly pleasant to deal with which makes shopping there a great experience. We're lucky to have such a great store in Kapiti.

Just a request, please ... please bring back the workshops that used to take place when the store was in Porirua. Yes, this store still does demonstrations, but some craft workshops...
