Pretty Average. Friendly Staff, Dated rooms (looks like they are about to be renovated).
I have worked in hotel management and setup many hotels, but this has the hallmarks of poor management and a lack of focus on the detail. Would have been happy to pay a higher rate if the details were a little better and understand its an old property.
Checkin and checkout was efficient and friendly Bathroom was clean and tidy Bed was old and of the style where its like sleeping on a thin sheet of sprung wood. Room was warm Mirror in the room was dirty (sneeze marks etc)
TV channels where very ghosted, not in alignment with guide in compendium. Sky Movies was advertised, but channel was just looping through ads and suggesting the plan should be upgraded to include movies.
Tea and coffee making facilities, with packets of Instant coffee and teabags, but no Hot Chocolate etc.
Restaurant was "OK" but once again lacking care. Pumpkin soup was tasty, but had split.
Steak and egg meal: white was only 75% cooked on the egg, so I sent it back. Was asked if I wanted it flipped and cooked well and advised I just wanted the white set, but after some time got a super cooked egg. And a well done steak (asked for med). Steak may have been cooked over due to the egg request. Demi glaze was enjoyable, no idea why fries were served in a bowl on a large plate...but that is prob. Just preference.
I do have an issue with Cooks who are unable to fry an egg and don't subscribe to the raw white on the yolk or for 5mm around it. My 16yo daughter can fry an egg with the white set and the yolk runny and its not her job, this has only become common practice as a result of cooking eggs on a hotplate, but there are methods to still achieve this.
Strudel was delicious, but took 20+ mins to arrive when there were only 4 other people in the restaurant at 8:30pm (who had already been served).
Over all I feel like if there was an experienced manager in the property they would be able to train and hold staff to a higher standard and make the most out of a dated property. In comparison I stayed at the Commodore in Christchurch a few days earlier larger but equally dated rooms and the service, cleanliness and attention to detail is at the other end of the scale as an example of how an older property can be nothing more than something you notice while enjoying excellent facilities,...
Read moreFirst of all - The staff working here is very arrogant and non-polite. We didn't had a very pleasant stay and following is my experience. I along with my wife checked in at Kingsgate hotel on 31/03/2018 for one night stay.
Upon arrival at reception - I presented my booking confirmation (booking was done online at Millennium hotels website) to receptionist and without even looking at it properly - the receptionist said - "this doesn't looks like ours.... oh yes wait". Then she realized that the booking slip is theirs and checked us in - the whole conservation was not welcoming at all and sounds very impolite.
I asked a second staff who was working outside the hotel area about car parking - her response was dull and it make your mood more off.
on 31/03/2018 itself - evening , I confirmed from reception that we have booked adult full breakfast for two along with the room booking. The reception girl checked and confirmed that breakfast is pre-booked and we don't have to do anything - just come at the breakfast hall anytime next morning between 6.30 to 9.30. the Next morning (01/04/2018) when we reported at breakfast hall - we were told that we have to pay for breakfast. Really? I told them to please check your system and our booking amount already includes breakfast for two. she was again blah blah blah and later on they checked their booking slips and allowed us for breakfast. (Such a trouble when you are on holiday and sightseeing and you have to face this)
This was very unpleasant to go through such things when you have already booked your tour properly. I would not recommend Kings-gate Greymouth hotel to anyone, although your heritage Hanmer (which is also a part of Millennium hotels) is a very good hotel. Such a difference.
thanks and...
Read moreWhich state at this hotel for two nights during a business trip hotel is located centrally. It seems that hotel has been recently renovated or refurbished therefore rooms that we stayed in we're almost brand new. From outside hotel looks like an industrial building of 70s but from inside it is very nice and modern stuff was also very nice because when we checked in there was a large group of tourists therefore checking in at the same time therefore staff accommodated are separately. Rooms had everything that is expected from a hotel we had two rooms and view from both windows was quite nice you could open the windows as well and there was a small balcony that one could walk out on. Bathrooms we're also nice and toiletries we're also of good qualities. I always look at the plumbing of hotel bathrooms and in this case I must say that plumbing was excellent and hot water and cold water was readily available.
Quality of a mattress a linen was excellent however the iron had some residue from the previous ironing unfortunately most hotels have this problem. But also had electric blanket that could be switched on however it was not that cool so I did not use it.
I really like their initiatives that if a room is not cleaned then they will contribute some funds to animal welfare and conservation which I felt was much better than what most hotels 10 to request that it will save environment if the room is not cleaned I really like this initiative and I am also attaching a photograph that describes their initiative and excellent initiative that other hotels should learn from.
Rooms are very quiet and there was no noise ...
