This was Wednesday night with my wife, with about 1 dozen other people there, so not busy. A pleasant atmosphere with non-intrusive music playing.
Directed to comfortable seats by an attentive friendly host, and offered drinks. Wife took a sav' blanc (nice) and I took a Cassells milk stout, (delicious).
The menu offered was varied and sounded interesting. I took the vego pasta, fettuccine alfredo with a crema base (tasty). My wife ordered the lamb sholder with rich jus gravy, duck fat potatoes, pea puree, and wilted greens. This meal is the menu highlight, with tasty meat most lean and tender. A ringing endorsement of a Kiwi speciality. This dish should be locally celebrated and promoted. We swapped our last-half meal portions so we could both experience the delight of each other's orders. . Being full, we we ordered to share, the donuts with shredded fruit ice-cream. A generous serve which was an absolute delight. Very fresh, sweet and morish. A sweet treat to spoil yourself with. These donuts were made immediately before service, and were still warm. Simply the best.
We were spent. We couldn't take any more. We had experienced a truely outstanding experience. Very attentive prompt service, delicious food,
That was the end of the meal. We had experienced a truely outstanding meal last night. So different to alot of the very ordinary dining experiences we have nowadays. The point of difference for this meal is, - the quality of this experience for the price. A paltry $111, including drinks.
I would recommend this experience to anyone looking for an opportunity to celebrate an occasion with someone you love. My wife's birthday on this occasion. It exceeded my expectations of a great meal to have, after a busy mid-week day. We were both looking for a relaxing and delicious dinner. Thank you 7...
Read moreWORST service I’ve ever experienced at a restaurant. We arrived shortly after the dinner service started, and waited quite a while to even get a menu. We ordered very quickly then waited an hour and a half for our food to arrive COLD. I understand they were quite busy but we sat starving watching every other table seated way after us get their food, finish their food, and leave before getting ours. We were ignored by the servers and after over an hour we asked how long it would be. We were told it would be another 5 minutes then waited another 15. The table next to us waited maybe 20 minutes for their mains and received complementary drinks and a genuine apology for their wait, meanwhile all we got was a casual and insincere “sorry for the wait”. Like are you serious?? This was unbelievable! At this point we were convinced we were purposefully being given terrible service. Also, if the food was just taking long cause the kitchen was busy, wouldn’t the food be hot when we received it?? But it wasn’t. It was cold like it had been sitting on the counter for a while. We were very excited to try this restaurant and left extremely disappointed. I never usually leave reviews but this experience was...
Read moreGood service, excellent food, reasonable portion sizes, fairly priced. Be aware they are like a tapas restaurant, where plates are shared but of course there is no obligation to share if you choose to order and eat individually. However, you are more likely to enjoy your meal here with more variety in a shared played basis. Some of the food was slightly over-smoked to me, but that's really a matter of preference and no reason to score down on that. My vote for dish of the night was the skirt steak, which was beautifully cooked and delicious, with a good portion of meat - don't miss out on this unless you're a vegetarian. The pork belly was good but the crackling tasted like it had been par cooked before today, it wasn't quite right. Also, as it was meant to be shared, it would have been better to have 4 smaller pieces of crackling than 2 large (pretty and curled) pieces. But the pork was good. But overall, were we satisfied when we left the restaurant and would we return if we are in Greymouth again?...
