If you're on your way somewhere and passing through this area, I recommend continuing on and finding a new café for your coffee break.
There were nine women (by the way, we're not teenagers; most of us are in our 30s and 40s) on our way to Queenstown on Anzac Day. It was the worst café experience we've ever had, and it's not just one person's opinion; all nine of us agreed.
We understand that it's a public holiday and the café may be busier than usual, or perhaps it's always this busy; we don't know.
We ordered nine coffees and the lady at the till who took our order was so rude. She was yelling at us about what coffee we wanted and what size. Her facial expression and tone were like someone talking to a dog; that was the first incident.
The second incident occurred when a young waitress brought our coffee. Her face also looked like she didn't want to be there. She placed three mochas on the table (if she could throw it she probably would), then went back inside and laughed with her colleagues, most of them seemed disinterested except for two Indian workers who may be in training and one of lady greeted us with a hello and offered to take a...
Read moreSometimes, when you stop for food on a road trip and ask for a vegan dish, you get a shrug and a baked potato. And that's fair enough. When you request a chef to cook something off menu, they're under no obligation to do so. But The Wrinkly Rams totally won me over by bending over backwards.
After I described my dietary restrictions, the kitchen staff whipped up a fresh veggie sandwich that wasn't just vegan, but also delicious. They took the time to select veggies that paired well together and made something special just for me.
In addition to all the other pluses (quirky atmosphere, fun gifts) the kitchen staff were very kind and thoughtful, and it made that day's adventure a brighter and less hungry affair.
P.S. I'm not suggesting people order weird stuff off menu just to see what happens! Don't be as rude as I was, y'all. As all longtime vegans know, whenever possible, you should call ahead to restaurants and inquire about the menu in advance if you have a particular dietary restriction. I just wanted to highlight that on a day when I screwed up and forgot to call ahead, the staff were still very kind and...
Read moreIt's a hidden gem! The moment I walked in, I was greeted with the warm and cozy atmosphere that immediately made me feel at ease. But what really stole the show was the food - oh, the food!
Their pie and pastries are absolutely divine! I've been to many popular bakeries throughout my camper van journey in NZ, but The Wrinkly Rams takes the cake (or should I say, the pie?). The flavors are rich, the crust is flaky, and the presentation is impeccable. It's clear that the chefs take pride in their craft.
But what's even more impressive is the variety of local products available in their shop, there's something for everyone. The service was friendly. The prices were very reasonable considering the quality of the products.
Overall, The Wrinkly Rams is a must-visit for anyone looking for a delicious meal or snack, or just a unique shopping experience. Plus, they...
