Sunrise Garden Suites Albany — Hotel in Upper Harbour

After staying here a couple times, we’ve always loved this place. Close to everything you’d need, clean with top customer service. We had highly recommended this accommodation to family and had them stay here with us for a funeral. Upon arrival, the lady at reception did not greet us as we entered the office. We had to greet her with a “good morning” in order for her to look up at us from her computer. No greeting back from her, just a “check in?”…”name?”. She asked if we had stayed here before, we said yes. She then grabbed a form and a room key. Told me to sign the form without an explanation of what it was or giving me time to read through it. I signed and handed the form back to her. She stated she didn’t need to explain how things worked since this wasn’t our first time, turned around and went back on her computer. Not sure if this act was apart of the halloween spooker freaky blue eyed contacts she had in or… We did have a few queries but chose not to engage with her as she was obviously having a bad day. With our stay, we were out from 5am and didn’t return till after 7pm or so. This was every day which is why we were not able to seek any assistance with the issues we had. We tried to find staff/housekeeping around the car park area and apartment just incase but no luck. The dishwasher would only allow a 30 minute cycle which wasn’t cleaning our rinsed dishes. When we would return to the apartment we had to manually wash our dishes every night before using them again to have dinner The microwave had not been cleaned from previous guests. Smelt like a mix of different foods, there were crumbs still on the plate and splatters all over the inside The floor of the kitchen and lounge was dusty and dirty. We had only been unpacking our things upon arrival for about an hour and the bottom of our feet were black There was thick slimy build up in the corners of the shower The washing machine door would lock after a cycle of clothing. We had to google how to solve this issue. We had to fiddle with a pully tab at the bottom right corner. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn’t. We ended up taking our laundry to a laundromat nearby The complimentary body wash, shampoo and conditioner attached to the wall of the shower would have been great if the pumps were working. Couldn’t use any of these products The second drawer under the sink wouldn’t open after products had been stored in there. The drawer was stiff and took a while to re open. We emptied the drawer and left it open as it wouldn’t re shut When flushing the toilet, we noticed a black substance that kept appearing. Lifted the seat and found two holes left and right that were leaking out black gunk The bedroom closet compartments were dusty and had orange hair in one of them. We found clothing and personal items from a previous guest in one of the drawers The mink blanket that’s kept in the closet was stained and smelt like others had used it. Hair grease and a musky smell The iron board back pieces were rusty and too stiff to open so we ironed our clothing on the floor There were red and brown stains on 4 hard covered pillows on our bed and they smelt the same as the mink blanket The tv remote was working on and off. It would work fine one day then the next day, wouldn’t work at all. We purchased new batteries but the remote still didn’t work. The balcony floor was dusty and dirty. The heat pump out there, covered in rust and cobwebs The housekeeping team would visit our apartment daily when we were out as we’d come back and find our rubbish had been emptied, toilet paper replenished and new towels were left behind. We did notice that our clothing and personal items had been touched. Nothing missing but we definitely know our drawers had been opened and items moved around. Same situation with our bathroom items. A few bottles of cleaner were left behind in our bathroom for two days.

Disappointing and a shame we won’t be returning. Wishing Sunrise apartments all the best in improvements...

By far one of the best places I have stayed in years. travelling for work a lot, I get to stay at a lot of places and never really feel the need to leave a review one way or the other, but this place is worth a mention. From the first encounter with staff to the last, the experience is friendly and efficient, the room I stayed in was very spacious, extremely well appointed and super clean. Stayed in the middle of winter so noticed the double glazing and individual heat pumps in each room immediately as the apartment was cosy and warm throughout. Vehicles are securely parked underground with easy access to elevators and ample parking. There is a high level of security with elevators requiring room tags to access the correct floor adding additional comfort to lone travellers or people leaving and returning at odd hours. Finally - as an added benefit - you open the doors to the balcony and realise that there is small stream right behind the apartments that you can hear all the time. (Bit too cold during my stay to leave the balcony doors open over night, but in summer this must be the most tranquil experience ever) - I have advised my company, our corporate travel agency and my co-workers that this is by far the most outstanding property I have stayed in for a while and when in the neighbourhood, staying here is an...

The rooms are lovely and the staff friendly. Our issue was with the air-conditioning in the apartment. Within minutes of switching it on (for heating) the windows became wet within condensation. The air coming from the unit felt moist and had an unpleasant odour. We attempted to contact reception (5:23pm) to have someone come to the room to check but it closed. Upon phoning the after hours number we were told that nothing could be done until the following day (our checkout). Needless to say we did not use the heating due to health concerns. I received a response from the accomodation after checkout to say that they had investigated the issue and no problem had been detected - Slightly confusing because the smell and dampness was very distinct.
