Transcorp Hilton Abuja — Hotel in Maitama

Been using the gym for several years. Left my Gold jewelry at the sauna and someone stole it. Asked questions and the person was traced. MR ISREAL who is in charge of the fitness center said he couldn’t do anything about it but call the security to inform them.They security were informed and my statement taken by the investigator who said his name was MR ALEXANDER they also promised to do an investigation and follow up with the victim to return the stolen item and reach out to me. Days passed by and no news, I went to follow up and it happened that nothing had been done about the situation because they called me and asked me to go drop the number of the person who stole my jewelry at the security desk. I was confused as all the details were put down in my statement,which meant no one worked on the statement given.On Monday which was 5 days after waiting with no response at all or any form of concern from the hotel security I reported and had an officer come in from the FCID. After all efforts by the officer to know why the accused had not been contacted…he asked for details of this person who happened to be a gym member. MR ISREAL and the INVESTIGATOR refused providing this details. MR ISREAL said he would inform his staff being people who worked at the recreation facility to inform the security whenever this person came around. Same Monday night, the person who stole came to the gym and nothing was done. More like the workers were not informed to be on the lookout and the security also weren’t doing their job …..this makes me wonder what they were up to. On Tuesday the CSO was contacted from the Maitama police station and he said he didn’t have any details yet, he also said he reached out to the fitness center and the person in charge said he will tell his people to be on the lookout(he obviously didn’t do this even after saying he will on Monday hence the reason the staff didn’t contact the security). The investigators, security team and especially the person in charge of the fitness center kept acting nonchalant about a situation reported to them. They couldn’t conduct proper investigation to further protect others who use the facility . For a hotel with such reputation, it’s disheartening how they choose to handle such delicate issues especially that of security concern. I am highly disappointed as this could be anybody.

20th October. (Update on false response by hotel)

Dear Manager It’s disappointing to see that the hotel’s response here is inaccurate and attempts to rewrite the facts of what actually happened. To clarify — it was the police, not the hotel, who tracked down the accused. I personally brought the accused to meet the Chief Security Officer (CSO) with the IPO while the investigation was ongoing. This was after the hotel acted indifferent and failed to take any actions. I INVOLVED THE POLICE,ON MY OWN ACCORD,because nothing was done. I wasn’t advised to involve the authorities because you had interviewed the suspect.(The suspect kept coming into the premises like nothing happened) and nobody bothered to get her statement. When the police got involved, they were surprised that the hotel had done absolutely nothing about the incident, that they had to come with the girl. Contrary to the hotel’s claim, their team did not invite the girl for questioning — I brought her in myself. There was also another witness, another girl who came up during the investigation by the police , who was invited for questioning. This witness confirmed that the accused picked up my GOLD NECKLACE while they were in the sauna and they left together. Because of this, the accused was detained in police custody. The hotel would not know these facts because they never followed through on their end or took the situation seriously from the beginning. It’s quite amazing — and disappointing — how people in positions of responsibility would rather present misleading statements publicly than acknowledge their lack of accountability and...
