Hostal Cigarra — Hotel in Santa Ana

This place is a complete dump. Rooms are not clean, had a nice clump of long hair on the floor when I arrived...I have short hair. door knob to room broken. They don't tell you that they dont provide hot water for showers so nice cold shower every day. Every day since I arrived, I have had to stick my hand in the toilet tank to flush it and ask them to fix, but they are incapable of fixing it. they say they do, but it isnt and I continue to reach my hand in the tank to flush it, which no guest should have to do. 2 blaring bright lights right into my room window, even with eyemask on you can see light. Room is right above the front desk and common area so it is very loud and construction right outside, but they said they put me in a quiet room as requested and required. You get one half size drawer so will live out of your suitcase in your 100 sq foot room. We think Hostal Cigarra is a good cheap hotel (2 nights in a double room for $50) with a comfy bed, clean bathroom and A/C. We read some reviews about the location and felt it was absolutely fine in the day (it is just out of the old town on a really busy shopping pedestrianised street) but I do have to mention that our guide was mugged at gunpoint coming to meet us at 5am for our tour to the San Blas (he parked 220m away at the Coca Cola cafe). I was excited to discover a hostel that had a regular hotel room feel! $25/nt! Boy, was I wrong! There was only 1 bed. ✔️ An ensuite bathroom. ✔️ Close to the grocery store and near the night life. ✔️ But it was rundown and, while clean, the stains on everything left it feeling dirty.
