I booked Villa Morra Suites on the United Hotels website mostly because of its location. Villa Morra is an older, gentrified neighborhood that is bordered by Avda Mariscal Lopez to the south. Traffic is pretty heavy during peak hours, but moderate during off-hours. Hotel Villa Morra Suites has been around for 15 years and offers 31 luxury suites (including the Presidential Suite). The hotel is within easy walking distance of the dual shopping mall, Shopping Mariscal. ||||The hotel is appointed in early 20th century decor, but fortunately, 21st Century climate control keeps the hotel cool and comfortable. Suites are situated on the ground and upper 3 floors. Behind the reception area is a comfortable lounge with open-hearth fireplace and a balcony which overlooks the garden, pool area and patio and events pavilions. In spite of the fact that the entrance of the hotel is only yards away from busy Avda Mariscal Lopez, the hotel is quiet and tranquil. ||||We stayed in Suite 103 which offered us a panoramic view of the neighboring residence. Our suite included a small kitchenette with a large mini-fridge, microwave and a coffee maker. A ample-sized living room consumed most of the available square meters in our suite and included a convertible sleeper couch and desk and wide-screen TV.. The Master bedroom was a bit cramped as the king bed consumed much of the available space. The bedroom also included a wide-screen LED TV. The same can be said about the bathroom which included both a toilet and bidet, and an sizeable shower stall. IMHO, the designers try to cram too much luxury into a limited amount of space. The A/C worked perfectly... and enabled us to sleep comfortably under the quilts.||||Parking is available in the front of the hotel as well as in the back lot. Good WIFI is available throughout the hotel, but the signal tends to attenuate once inside the suite. The hotel is maintained in excellent condition... and routine maintenance of the facilities appear to be an on-going program.||||In the lobby and lower bar/restaurant area, you will find examples and a historical explanation of the Nanduti, the local needlework prevalent throughout the region. The hotel bar is situated on the lower level next to the hotel restaurant inside a winter garden facing the garden and pool. The cuisine at Villa Morra's restaurant is off the charts, and the daily morning gourmet breakfast buffet is worth the price of admission. We were also treated to the Sunday parrilla...a tasty buffet of salads and side dishes accompanied by freshly grilled pork ribs, beef tips and ribs and sausages. This is an event not to be missed.||||Overall, the service at Villa Morra is what one would expect at a 5-star hotel. The staff is educated and professional... and very knowledgeable about the local environs. One of the outstanding employees who come to mind is Jonathan who mans the front desk. His knowledge is a valuable resource. If you are willing to pay a little bit more, Hotel Villa Morra Suites is highly...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel for a month because of my job. The location was convenient to my office location -- closer to downtown than the Sheraton near Shopping del Sol. The hotel is older and the rooms are classic vice modern. I prefer that. My room was large and included a kitchenette (with microwave, fridge and coffee maker), a dining/living area with a small table, chairs, sleeper sofa and television, and a separate large bedroom with a queen sized bed and television. The bathroom was large, too (shower, no tub). WiFi is free. A breakfast buffet is included in the price, and the food choices are ample. (I am vegan and found a good variety -- meat eaters will do very well). There is free parking behind the hotel. There is a very small gym (treadmill, elliptical, weights) and an outdoor pool. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and responsive (if something needed adjustment, they tended to it immediately). Asuncion is a small city and nothing is really that far away. Cabs are cheap. I ended up walking to many locations, to include a laundry service since the one at the hotel was a bit pricey (I could have a load of laundry cleaned at the lavanderia for the same price as one shirt at the hotel). Longer stays -- more than 30 days -- earn a discounted room rate, making this a stellar deal. I really enjoyed my stay here, I think it was one of the better hotel values I've experienced for...
Read moreVilla Morra Suites was like an oasis after a week of forgettable hotels. The hotel is converted from an old grand mansion, but the rooms feel every bit like mini-apartments fully equipped with a small kitchenette and a separate sitting area. The decor and furniture have not been renovated in a while, but the bathroom definitely feels newer with a stone finish, glass shower stall, high-pressure shower as well a excellent air-conditioning and a proper bed you would find in a nicer hotel and plenty of lighting. I would say the highlight was breakfast in the conservatory - just a beautiful setting and the breads and pastries were fresh, creative and delicious for this picky eater, not to mention several fresh juices and fruit and choice of made-to-order hot dishes. Honestly, I was sorry I wasn't staying longer just for that breakfast!||||IT is a super quiet area in Villa Morra. There is a mall about 5-10 minutes walk from the hotel, but otherwise there is honestly nothing around for a traveler. If you need to buy drinks or snacks, there is the chicken place around the corner. As a traveler, the main points of interest in Asuncion are in the center, but with traffic expect it to usually take a LONG time to get there and back. No matter what, if I am back in Asuncion I'm pretty sure I'm...
