We spent 4 weeks touring south Peru and we felt that this was the best hotel we stayed at. It was not the poshest; we were in more expensive hotels in Lima, Cusco and the Sacred Valley. But in terms of providing the best experience overall, Villa Elisa beat those more upmarket hotels. |First there is the setting, just outside the pleasant but busy centre of Arequipa, but a short and safe walk away, which is perfect. You enter here and it's an oasis of green and calm. A little fountain, colibries flying around, the small jacuzzi pool at the top of the garden - not, as we half-expected beforehand, only put there as a gimmick, but as a real bonus and hot enough to be comfortable on a chilly late afternoon in July.|Second there are the rooms with a nice view of the garden, comfortable beds and showers with good hot water supply.|Third, there is the good buffet breakfast (with hot egg dishes swiftly made to order) and even the possibility to have a tasty lunch and dinner.|Finally and most importantly, there is the good-natured friendliness of the owners and staff, the earnest and disinterested advice that they provide, the laid-back atmosphere that they create. Read moreThe Villa Elisa is an absolute haven of tranquility a short 10 minute walk from the busy centre of Arequipa. ||My husband I stayed here for 4 nights with a trip to Colca Canyon in the middle. ||The breakfast was the best that we had in Peru. A wide selection of of top quality ingredients with a plentiful supply of coffee and teas. Such a delight to have breakfast and watch the humming birds in the garden. ||Our ground floor room had a small patio area where us was lovely to rest after a busy day exploring Arequipa and there were also seats around the garden to take advantage of the sun and shade. The outside area enhanced by a perfect small pool. ||The rooms were very comfortable with plenty of hot water, fluffy towels, hair dryer and most importantly of all a very comfortable bed. ||We had an overnight trip to Colca Canyon in the middle of our stay and the hotel were happy for us to leave our things in pour room until we returned and also provided a breakfast bag for us as we had an early start. ||Whilst the hotel is beautiful, what really makes the Villa Elisa stand out is it’s staff. We are a family of 3 people from Colorado that have been traveling 3 months through parts of South America. This was our favorite stay. The pros and cons Pros -Clean. -The rooms and common areas are well appointed with quality classic furniture and beautiful art pieces from around the world. -Oasis like outside courtyard complete with flowers and hummingbirds -The wonderful breakfast buffet, the best we had in Peru, complete with the fruits of the region and European tasting breads and jams. -The host, Jean-Luis and his wife, checking on all the details daily and becoming acquainted with every quest.
