The hostel is situated pretty well for people who want to explore both neighboorhoods, Miraflores and Barranco. The supermarket is 8 blocks from the hostel, so not too close but still within walking distance. If you want to go to the beach, you need to walk quite a bit or take a taxi. ||||The owners of the hostel are really really nice and I have never stayed in a hostel, where people care that much about their guests. Erik took his time to explain me everything I needed and gave me great tips. He knows a lot about the the whole city and seems to have friends everywhere, so he can easily help you with whatever you want. ||One night there was a party next doors and he tried the best for the guests to help them sleep. He even gave me another room to sleep in for that night and stayed in contact with the neigbors to keep the music down. This is apparently a one time think and occurs only for Christmas. But I have never stayed in a hostel where the owners are so attentive to the guests. ||||I stayed in the single room with private bathroom, which with 15USD is quite cheap. It was very small (which is completely ok for that price), but the private bathroom attached to the room was a bit dirty. As far as I have seen, all the other rooms were cleaner. I advised Erik about this issue and he cleaned the bathroom, but still, for my taste, it could have been a little bit cleaner. ||||The common area of the hostel is very small and dark, so not an inviting area to hang out. They do not have a 24 hour reception, or a reception of any kind, but they live downstairs, so usually you should be able to get a hold of somebody. Erik also gives away his Whatsapp contact, so you can easily contact him.||||The internet is ok and they are trying to improve it. They dont clean the rooms every day.||||All and all a simple hostel but with great and loving owners who make everything possible for you to have a nice stay and also try to improve their hostel...

Read moreMy partner and I stayed at the Family Hostel Barranco for 2 nights. Eric and his wife Vanessa picked us up from the airport at midnight and brought us to the hostel. The rooms are basic but clean and the bed was comfortable. Eric made us scrambled eggs for breakfast with homemade juice and super fresh bread rolls. Eric was great, he spoke good English and sat with us on our first morning and explained the local area, what to do, see and most importantly where to eat!!||The Hostel is within walking distance to Barranco centre which is a really nice suburb it has loads of restaurants, cafes, breweries and awesome street art.
