We stayed here for 3 nights (Sept 2nd-5th) and were significantly overcharged to what we agreed to with the owner. We were looking for somewhere to stay after the state of our original hotel (Don Giovanni. If you want to read about that dump, I left a review there too!). We were met by the Irish owner and he was welcoming and understanding. He showed us 3 rooms:|1 for 130 soles |1 for 170 soles|1 for 200 soles|And it would be 20 soles more for breakfast to be included during the stay. We repeatedly asked if this is the price for the full stay (why would we do per night when we’ve already left another hotel and only had 3 nights left?) and we were told yes it was the total. Not once did we haggle or try change the price. We agreed to 220 for the 3 nights. All goodwill was lost on our check out as 220 was listed 4 times and the owner said the cost was per night. He fabricated a story to say he started at 250 per night then came down and played dumb by saying he’d never do 70 soles a night. Not once was ‘per night’ mentioned or that the total would be 660 soles despite us repeatedly checking if the price was right. On our arrival with our luggage, I repeatedly asked to pay for the room upfront as we had been overcharged repeatedly in Mancora and was told to pay at check out. IF YOU STAY HERE, PAY UP FRONT. The owner eventually came down in price but we still ended up paying 510 Soles for the room instead of the 220 we agreed too! This 510 soles is not a discount as I can get that exact same price for 3 nights on booking.com right now (£102 = ~510 soles) - extremely frustrating. What is even more frustrating is the state the hotel was in. The room was disgusting and dirty. The noise at night from surrounding hotels/hostels was unbearable. We heard our scrambled egg breakfast get reheated in the microwave and automatically got up and went somewhere else for food and didn’t order any other food for the rest of our stay. If we knew it’d be this price we would’ve looked around Mancora for other options. We didn’t complain or take loads of photo because the 220 Soles we agreed to justified the state of the hotel. I have the notes of what we ordered throughout our stay, pictured below. An okay stay ruined...
Read moreI'd like to open with the fact that the hostel seems very nice, more of an hotel. I was very surprised to see such different style. However:
The hostel uses a barcode system. Like many others, the regulations of the hostel require the resident to put a bracelet on his/her hand. I've been traveling for quiet a while now, and understand such demand - however have never faced a direct "No!" Reply from any hostel employees when I asked politely to switch the location of the bracelet on my body. The reception employee called my request disrespectful, after her direct negative response. saying that "you will not raise your leg to pay for things". I tried to explain that I am with a group... They will pay... No compremise.
The owner of the hostel was called to talk to me. One of his opening sentences were "you woke me up", "Ive put the 3000 bracelets on peoples' hands, what is the problem with you?" and the conversation went out of hand. The owner himself lacks the understanding that there might be personal, different requests when offering hostality services...
I tend to think that if the hostel is rated 4.3 it meets the standarts of the backpackers. However, if a single request, that is a little not as usual is answered with an over-exaggerated response that made me leave a group of 4 friends and find a new hostel even though I booked.
Important point. The hostel was reserved with "booking" . The app charged some of the sum. However the response of the owner regarding the charging was completely clueless, saying "its the first time I see that booking...
Read moreI booked to spend 6 nights at Loki ending up of just staying 2 - 2 because I couldn't find a place to sleep on 31st December. Where to start with a review of Loki - huge disappointment. Basically, Loki is a place design to drain their clients’ money in the bar, because the only way to put up with Loki is being drunk throughout. You may think this is a nice cheap hostel by the beach. Well, it's not. It's a place where you pay not to sleep EVER - it's like having your bed inside a night club that only plays reggaeton from 9am to 6am non-stop. You don’t sleep because of the insanely loud music from Loki but also from other bars. Loki makes sure that you wake up early - music starts around 9am - so that you have enough time to spend you money in the bar. On 31st December, after partying until 5am, we woke up at 8am with the noise from someone trying to demolish a wall. We ask if they could come back later, the answer was no. By 9 am the music from the bar restarted again. Then, you think 'at least I'm going to enjoy the pool'. No, because Loki gets so many non-residents guest that the pool and bar area is always so crowded that you don't have a place to lay down. The food at the bar is expensive for what it's - just across the street there are plenty of cheaper and so much better places; the staff is not helpful nor friendly. Honestly, just...
