Pakaritampu is perfect if you are taking an early train from Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu or to the Inca Trail. The station is a 2-minute walk from the hotel, and the breakfast buffet starts at 5am. OTOH to get to the main square, it's half a mile gently uphill from the hotel. But walk slowly, maybe stop for a snack, and that's good acclimatization for Machu Picchu.||The hotel is as traditional on the inside as the exterior photos show. Lots of rich wood in the rooms, comfortable bed and bath. A good sleeping environment. The grounds are pretty and well-kept. The breakfast buffet is not huge but has something for everyone. We ate dinner at the hotel twice and the food was tasty and reasonably priced. ||The staff were all friendly and helpful, most of them speak English well. Because there is so little luggage area on PeruRail, we stored our larger suitcases at the hotel for the two days that we were in Machu Picchu. That way, we only had to take one backpack each...
Read moreThis was a perfect base for us to explore the sacred valley and we stayed here for two nights. The rooms were comfortable, staff friendly, and breakfast was nice.
The highlight by far was the garden, with all the hummingbirds. It was truly amazing to see them all flying about and many different types too! There seemed to be more variety when we went to look for them in the evening than in the morning but they were around all day.
It was also a perfect location for catching the train to Machu Picchu with the train station just a few minutes walk down the road. It also meant we could have a more relaxed day and not get up too early as we would have had we caught the train all the way from Cusco.
Being so close to the train station there is some noise from the train, particularly the train horns, but the trains don’t run overnight and it’s easy to bring earplugs if sensitive to noise.
Would really recommend this place and...
Read moreThe reason why I would rate this hotel one more star is for its beautiful garden. The garden is full of flowers and trees. Couldn't stop taking pictures.
The room was quite spacious but it was little bit too cold and hotel didn't have anything to keep the guests warm except blankets.
The bathroom is really old. The color jade (faded green) doesn't make it look nice overall. It was also quite humid inside. A nice/dry bathroom is one of the most important things for me when I evaluate hotels.
It was nice that they provided two bottles of water and two pieces of choloate at the corner of the room. Also it was good that they provided sleepers (reusable) for most other hotels we stayed didn't provide.
Staffs are kind but you rarely see or...
