I must say that we have a mixed feeling about Adriana's place. Our first night was great, quiet, we could relax and have some good sleep + upon arrival, i really found the place lovely, with the native style huts equipped with a small outdoor private lounging area + clean and pleasant bathroom. The staff was really friendly and the owner too. If this was only for the place and for that first night, i would give 5 stars and wouldn't quote any bad point.
However, our two next nights were not nice.
Our second night : the owner and friends of him were sitting in the common area. They were drinking and talking/singing quite loud until midnight or so. They were also litteraly shouting on the phone to somebody, while standing right next to our hut. The hotel is made of nipa huts. We could hear absolutely everything inside and couldnt get to sleep. When they finally all got away, the couple in the next hut started having s**. And the girl was beyond noisy. For more than half an hour. When i finally got to sleep, they made it again in the middle of the night, waking me up. Again the girl shouting for more than half an hour. Everybody including the neighbors could hear her. I almost didnt sleep that night and we had to go diving early.
In the morning, we learned that one of the friends of the owner had very bad personnal problems and they were actually comforting her the night before, thats why they were drinking. The point is, even if i felt sorry for this person and could understand the situation, this is not our problem, and they could have gone somewhere else to drink and be noisy, in order not to ruin the night of their guests.
About the moaning girl, they apologied to us for that the next day, which means they knew about it. Even if this is not their fault in the beginning, it seems they didnt talk to this couple and didnt do anything to solve the problem. The couple had s** again during the day, shouting again beyond loudly, plus again during the next night, shouting again. In the end, my husband woke up in the night and went personnally to the hut of the couple to ask them to please shut up. We would have appreciated that the staff did something, and not us as guests.
Last point : on our last day, we asked the staff if they could call a tricycle for us to go back to Tagbilaran. None of their contacts were available, but the owner offered to drive us with his car for 500 pesos. We agreed for that. He then asked if we were in a hurry. We weren't (though we didnt want to wait hours either, as it was already the middle of the afternoon). Then, the owner drank one beer, and my husband took one too and drank with him, thinking we would leave right after. But the owner then drank one beer after the other. At some point, my husband said "last one and we go right ?", but the owner opened a new beer again after that. I was looking at him and thinking "how the hell will he be able to drive us after drinking all these beers ?". Then, after more than one hour, he said "oh, i drank too many beers, i can not drive you anymore sorry". He was the one who offered us the service, we were willing to pay for it, and we lost a lot of time just waiting on him. It was then completely night. We had a hard time finding a tricycle (the place is far from the busy tourist spots), we missed the last fast ferry to Cebu of the day and we were too late to have good seats on the slow ferry. We ended up having a horribly uncomfortable trip back to Cebu. We don't really understand why the owner offered to drive us, and then drank so many beers. And neither him nor the staff offered to help us to find a tricycle or a solution to go back to Tagbilaran after that. He just kept on saying "i had too many beers sorry" with a big smile...
To sum up : this hotel is lovely and great value, but they should pay more attention to the wellbeing of their guests, and act to solve problems when there are problems. Not just be sorry about it, no matter how smiley and...
Read moreI compared many budget-friendly places in Palao to stay in for five nights and decided to stay at Adrianna's Backpackers resort. The resort is in close proximity to a beach, which is very pretty and good for a relaxed day at the water. It's my favourite beach on the island. The resort features plenty of greenery, and has a chill common area with a bar. The staff is also friendly.
I booked the double room with balcony to have my own quiet space to relax and read a book. Unfortunately, that was not possible.
The room was located right next to the dorm and didn't have any windows. You could hear everything from the dorm, as well as the private area of the owners. In general, it was very loud starting early in the morning. I didn't manage to sleep longer than 7 am, even with earplugs! During my first night, the young child of the staff came banging at my door at 7 am and woke me up for literally no reason. I complained to her mother about it and she said that's what children do - she didn't really seem to be concerned.
The second day I was woken up by very loud construction sounds again at 7 am- they started replacing the roof of the main area. They started tearing down the roof, there was dust and debris everywhere. The staff told me that this would only last for some days days and from the morning to 5pm. Still, to me this was completely unacceptable - the main area was unusable, it was extremely loud, and dusty. The staff just said that most people would go to the beach anyway, so what's the problem??
At that point I got angry and decided that I wouldn't spent my stay at a construction site. It's not what I have paid for. It's so disrespectful towards all the guests, especially who come from far away to spend their limited vacation days here. Especially rude is to not inform them beforehand.
In my view they should've closed the resort for the time of the renovation. After some negotiation they refunded me partially for my remaining three nights, but I lost about 700 pesos. It's so sad to me that I have to suffer, and loose money because of their lack of care and customer orientation.
I wouldn't recommend you to stay at Adrianna's, although it's beautifully located but noisy and certainly lacks the right attitude towards the guests.
I also want to mention that the men's toilet, especially the pissoir, were not clean, so also very...
Read morePro- the manager tried her best to help us||Cons- if I could give this place a zero I would. This standard room was not fit for purpose from the minute we arrived. We arrived to a shack with no working lock or door, which no staff had noticed. When we got in the room we discovered the bed was on a 25 degree angle so you would constantly roll to the wall and pull the mosquito net off. Not that this particularly mattered because the net was littered with holes to let all the mosquitos in. Sleeping in the room became even more unbearable with the electricity turned off and we had no fan. ||The next issue was the bathrooms having literally no water. You couldn't wash your hands let alone have a shower. The toilets didn't wash either and the bathrooms hadn't been cleaned. There was loads of hair in one of the showers. We complained to management numerous times and were promised the water was fixed but it was not. The deluxe rooms also had little to no running water.||We had no choice but to move so we could at least shower and wash our hands. We were just told sorry. There was no refund for the night we were loosing, even though their facilities were not up to scratch and the facilities they had on booking.com were untrue. I find it absolutely disgusting that the owner of this place is renting out this room which is uninhabitable and not fixing massive issues with the establishment, but building a new room. The building work starts at 7am too so if you are not a morning riser be prepared to have an awful awakening. This also was not stated anywhere on booking.com. ||The price of scooter rental is appalling compared to at Alona Beach. The place isn't close to anywhere and the breakfast is gross and overpriced. Stay somewhere at Alona beach and you'll have a much more pleasant time and actually have water. |DO...
