What a terrific experience we had with Tiago and Dora and their apartment at Mood Lodging.
Tiago and Dora’s apartment itself, Mood Caldas, was perfect. The location couldn’t be better – only a 2 or 3 minute walk to the historical town of Obidos but far enough removed that there is no tourist noise. The view from the apartment is stunning with a wide vista which includes a beautiful old church and glorious sunrises.
The apartment itself was roomy, light-filled and very tastefully decorated with a comfortable mattress and high-quality sheets. The cozy patio is a perfect place to chill with coffee after waking and a cocktail before dinner. Nothing was forgotten. They even provided yummy treats to welcome us and a well-stocked first aid kit and kitchen spices. Their kitchen had as many utensils as ours at home has. Parking was by far easier than any other location we stayed in Portugal.
We’ve had excellent experiences in the many years we’ve been renting international accommodations, but we’ve never had anyone who went the many extra miles that Tiago and Dora went for us. From the moment we made our reservation, Tiago offered to provide help in any way possible from information about local services to restaurants to possible tour routes. He always responded immediately, respectfully and helpfully. Upon our arrival, they spent time reviewing the map they provided and gave directions and suggestions for our travels in the area. Tiago has an excellent command of English which made communication easy and comfortable.

Read moreFabulous! This was our first trip to Portugal and we were so very fortunate to randomly pick Dora and Tiago's "Caldas" for our first night's stay. Communication was top notch and Tiago was there waiting for us when we arrived. The home was bright, super clean, beautifully decorated and every need was met. We were even provided with complimentary local wine, cookies and Ginga! Along with the treats, Tiago provided us with interesting points about the production and culture associated with them. Also, we learned all about Obidos along with suggestions for restaurants, the best shops and landmarks and walking tours. Mood Lodging is located on a quiet, lovely road and just a short walk to the fairy tale village of Obidos. We had no idea what to expect and spent endless hours researching places to visit in Portugal. Tiago was a wealth of knowledge and he provided us with honest assessments of towns and sites that we thought we might like to visit. We do not like "tourist traps" and as a result, he suggested a few areas that were not even on our list. We took his advise and this journey was one of our best EVER! If we could give more than a five star review, we would. The accommodations, the extras and all of Tiago's help deserve a 10 star review! Thanks to Dora and Tiago for helping us to make this a memorable and perfect vacation. Mood Lodging sets the standard for perfection on every count. We will be back to this beautiful town and to visit with our...
Read moreDora and Tiago were fabulous hosts. Friendly, responsive, and with fabulous suggestions about Obidos and the region. Tiago greeted us and took the time to get to know us a bit (and vice-versa), which helped him to make great suggestions for our stay in Obidos, a wonderful and beautiful town, but one that could probably be a bit too "touristy" without the guidance of local hosts who clearly love the town and the area. They are lovely and hard-working people, and so professional and on top of things that we didn't realize that Mood Lodging was just them and not some larger business. They are travelers themselves, which is reflected in their anticipation of visitors' needs and questions. As others have mentioned, the complimentary family-made ginjinha and other treats in the apartment were fabulous. And one other thing this coffee lover appreciated was that there were different types of coffee makers in the apartment.
The location was great--a very short (maybe 4 minutes, at most) walk to a quiet entrance to the city, and right by several restaurants, inclding Jamon Jamon (recommended by Tiago), about a three minute walk away, where we had a fabulous meal in a friendly unpretentious environment. The apartment itself was great--well equipped and maintained and immaculate. We can't recommend this place highly enough.
We booked through Booking.com, not realizing they have their own website. I wish we had booked directly, which helps them and...
