We ordered the beef steak with traditional Portuguese mountain cheese sauce, rustic potatoes and salad, chicken fingers with fries, and the Madok burger. The food was very average. The steak was really tough and rubbery, hard to eat. The side salad felt like a bit of a joke - in my opinion, it’s an unnecessary addition. It would be better to skip it and just serve a bit more potatoes. The dish would benefit from that.
The chicken fingers were not tenders, but more like a ground-up mush of unknown ingredients. The plate decoration was actually funny - a few carrot shavings tossed on top like someone wanted to decorate it but gave up. Honestly, better not to add anything at all.
The burger was average, you couldn’t really taste the meat and it was completely unseasoned. The portions were decent, though with the steak dish they could have been a bit more generous.
The service was friendly - maybe too much. One of the waitresses was clearly in training, which made some interactions quite funny, and others a bit uncomfortable. I should also mention that she forgot to bring the fries with the burger and only brought them after we pointed it out.
The interior was interesting but too mixed. You can tell the person who decorated the place is a geek - lots of references to Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Alice in Wonderland. But it was too much of everything. It would be better to focus on one theme and do it properly.
The waiting time for food wasn’t long. Prices were more or less fair, but as always - it could have been either cheaper or better quality.
We chose this place because it seemed to have the best reviews in the castle area, but we were a bit disappointed. I wouldn’t recommend this place in good conscience. Given where it’s located and the town it’s in, there’s a lot of wasted potential.
To sum it up - too much of everything. Too many random themes, none of which really lead the experience. Too much unnecessary stuff on the plate - a few carrot curls here, a few dill leaves there. A salad that doesn’t belong next to a...
Read moreon 8th December 2024 we came for lunch to Madok, two adults and a kid. We were trying to talk to a waiter and get the menu for 20 minutes with no success, and then my kid went inside on his own and took the menu for us. We ordered meal and started to wait. After 50 minutes wait our kid got his meal but we did not. After 60 minute wait (which means we spent already 1 hour 20 minutes at the completely empty table) we still had no food, we were dying of hunger and we were very late to our event. At that point we decided to leave and to find the restaurant where we would actually be served food. The manager of Madok was unbelievably brazen and rude. He had the audacity to request me to pay in full for the meal he never served. He did not apologize, not once. He basically said that it is my fault that we chose to sit down at the table at the time when a lot of people were having lunch. No, my dear, it is not my fault, it is your fault for a complete failure to organize work to actually feed people who sit at your tables. This place does not care about reputation or clients because they are located in busy Obidos and they are sure that people will eat there no matter what. But even so, the attitude of the restaurant manager was absolutely...
Read moreWhat a lovely experience! We came on a weeknight around 7:30pm and all the patio tables were taken but we were able to get a table inside.
Service was a little slow to start, but all the staff were so kind and friendly and it was clear they were working as quickly as they could to accommodate the dinner rush.
We were very pleased with our meal. The house mussels had a unique orange (fruit) flavour which was quite tasty. We ordered the sea bass, salmon with lemon, seafood rice and the shrimp linguine. Both the fish orders were fantastic - the textures were cooked perfectly and the fish was so fresh. The spinach and mushrooms on the seabass were also perfectly cooked and flavoured. The shrimp in the linguine was fantastic: juicy, plump and fresh and the pasta itself was a bit spicy but excellent flavours. The seafood rice was generous in seafood amounts and the rice was flavourful. Excellent and delicious!
The inside of the restaurant was a little stuffy with not the best air circulation but the fans helped a little bit.
Bonus: my drink - a mocktail without gin - was very fun.
I was a little nervous because some of the recent reviews were poor, but my experience was not like those!...
