What a pleasant surprise to happen in here for what was a delicious dinner! The restaurant is inside The Literary Man Hotel. All the walls in the public spaces, including the restaurant, are lined floor to ceiling with books. We were lucky that on this night they had live music, a singer guitarist who was wonderful. And the food was just great! I had the best sea bass fillets in my last 4 wks travelling Spain and Portugal. My husband’s tuna tataki was also just perfect. Our side of Greek salad was nice tho a bit on the small side for the price. And the only other small criticism is that our waiter could have been nicer and more helpful answering our questions about the menu. I also loved all the little nods to the theme. All the dishes are named after books and their authors and the dessert menu is presented tucked inside a small cookbook. I would happily eat here again, and we might on our next night in Obidos. Maybe even just to try and get the waiter to...
Read moreA disappointing tourist trap. Arrived on time for an 8:30 reservation. Ordered 1 starter and 2 mains. It took 45 minutes for the starter to arrive. Tempura, which was overcooked and extremely salty. By 10pm the mains still hadn’t arrived. Spoke to the waiters about it who were nice enough but totally apathetic and didn’t apologise once. They told me other people had had the same experience that night and had also complained. Then they asked if I wanted to talk to the chefs about it. Seriously? That’s your job! That was the final straw so we decided to leave. Maybe we were unlucky and it’s not normally like that but our experience was very disappointing. The only nice thing about the place was the decor/location. I wouldn’t go back or recommend it. There are a few really nice places to eat used by both locals and tourists just 1km outside old Obidos. They are cheaper and a far better...
Read moreGreat atmosphere, beautiful decor. For starters I order the fish tempura, which had a lovely light batter, my partner had the prawn sandwiches which he really enjoyed though the portion was very large so you could definitely share this between two people. For mains, I had the mushroom risotto which was delicious and very nicely balanced and not too rich and he had the calf loaf...which was tender and well cooked...but came cold! My partner refused to complain and ate it and enjoyed it...though probably more if it was hot. For dessert we shared the brownie..which was nicely presented but a bit sickly sweet. Overall we really enjoyed our meal and would eat here again as the service was very good and the surroundings are fabulous. Would've given a higher rating except for the cold main and also the restaurant itself was a bit cold and drafty (maybe because we were sat near...
