We checked in late evening, everything seems smooth until we discovered the Air Con unit in our room (Room 21) was blowing out hot air even when dialed to the coldest temperature setting, it was better to switch off. Our young toddler got woken up due to the heat in one of the rooms. We had raised this with the nightshift receptionist, who I dragged over to test the AC to which he agreed a few times "yeah it is hot here". His solution was to bring a few fans to blow while he waits for his superiors to give him an answer about moving rooms. We didn't want to open any windows because we were bitten by flies and insects a few times already (and yes this was an issue exclusive to Clube Maria Luisa or just our room on the ground floor facing the car park. Not sure what bugs and how).
Our best outcome was to change to another room. But it became apparent that the hotel knew about this problem, at least in Room 21. So why offer it to us? The hotels weren't full, it's early off-season in May 2024? We have highlighted our concerns over health and safety reasons. A few times the receptionist said he "can only raise this with his superiors", we never got an answer, no explanation, no partial refund, nothing over whatsapp or email. Even now, I threatened them to give me a partial refund after a week for this inconvenience, still nothing. Well this review is a follow-up of their automated email, they asked for a one so here's a genuine account.
Generally the place is ok. I didn't realise it was only a 3-star hotel until my partner pointed it out to me. As far as 3-star hotels go, it's definitely not as plain as your travelodge/premier in and you would expect a degree of sloppiness, but it wasn't exactly low price neither. It was clean. The pool was nice. The brief encounters with the staff seems fair. My partner said the interiors are fancy, locations great, but it was spoiled by this technicality.
The clue in their multiple listings on Airbnb shows there might be an issue with reviews there, anyway, our overall 3 nights holiday in the Algarve was ruined only by this small detail which 'management' or receptionist of they had more power could have rectified quite easily - at least, give a response that I had requested. But I would appreciate a partial refund for the inconvenience.
Through reading older 1-2 star reviews i realised they tried this 'fan for AC' trick on other customers even in 2023, except they were given a much more pathetic fan. They are well prepared for...
Read moreAfter coming for our mini-moon last September we decided to rebook and bring along my sister and family who had not before visited portugal.||I booked two rooms, one a deluxe room (that we had previously stayed in hence wanting to rebook) at a cost of £213 more than the other standard room we had booked also using their direct website.||Upon arrival at 7.30pm we were advised that the room we had booked wasn't available! (They had double booked, but had not contacted us to let us know of the issue).|The staff were under trained in how to deal with these situations, making over 10 calls to management/ supervises in what to do.|We were offered a standard room which was fine but I questioned the refund of the £213 more it had cost for the deluxe room i had paid for.||Yet again staff did not have a clue telling me I would have to come back in the morning as they couldn't deal with it, I went back in the morning and the man was so rude telling me he couldn't deal with it either!||After 3 days I was offered 90euros and that's what he said his manager would be willing to give me back, this was not acceptable for a room they had double booked at no fault of my own.||It took me all holiday to NOT even a full refund!!! ||We then asked on our day of departure (as advised to do over the phone before we arrived and when we arrived)if we could keep our room on, we were advised that we could keep it till 2pm free off charge then 10euro for every hour after ans told to go back down at 11am. We went back at 11am to be told no you carnt and you need to be out by 12pm giving us 1 hour to pack up 7 people.||I'm so disappointed with the customer service that we experienced, I'm even more disappointed that we recommended this hotel to my family for them to also feel disappointed in the service.||It's safe to say that we won't be returning to the hotel again which is a shame as we visit Portugal around 4 times a year, been an independent travel advisor personal experience for recommendation...
