My husband and I visited the Hotel Maritur in September 2024 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel was clean and had good facilities. We had a room on the east side of the hotel with a balcony which had a sea view. Toiletries were provided in the bathroom, and the bedroom had a kettle, a fridge, and air conditioning. Paper cups were provided, which I didn't like, but we had our travel mugs, so it was fine.
A 10 minute walk out of the front of the hotel took us to Albufeira Marina, which was lovely. Plenty of bars, coffee shops and restaurants to choose from. You can also sign up for some of the tours and activities here. The City sightseeing bus stops here, and you can pick up taxis and tuk tuk here. It was a downhill walk getting there, but quite a steep walk back up. We always walked, except once when we got a tuk tuk back up the hill and it was a flat rate of €10.
If you went out the road to the back of the hotel, there were 2 beaches - one a 5 minute walk and the other about 15/20 minutes. The nearest beach was smaller and there a couple of little coves, but there was a lovely restaurant/bar there, with toilets. The further away beach was a longer one and also had a restaurant. Both beaches had car parks.
The Old Town was just 10/15 minutes away from the marina by bus. It's lovely to walk around with cobbled streets, whitewashed buildings and vibrant colours, but we found it very 'touristy'. Lots of tourist shops (I asked the Reception where locals shopped and she said there was a shopping mall a short distance away, which you could take a bus to). Loads of restaurants and bars to choose from, but just watch, some of them are quite pricey. There's a long, popular beach in front of the Old Town and there's a lift at one end that takes you up to the top of the cliff. There's an escalator at the other end!
Back to the hotel - a lovely outdoor pool (bit chilly, but that's supposed to be good for you!) and a small indoor pool. You have to wear a bathing cap in the indoor pool, but you can buy one for €3 from Reception. The restaurant and bar are just off the poolside. There's also a seating area in a small pool.
We thoroughly enjoyed all our meals and thought the a la carte menu had a great variety on it.
The best thing about the hotel was the staff. They were so helpful, nice and friendly and made all...
Read moreThis was a nice clean hotel with friendly staff. We arrived early and were able to leave our bags in a secure area before it was time to check in
The beach is a short walk away down the hill, scouting it out we found it was made up of a few coves some busier than others so worth having a look around.
There is a mini mart on site at the hotel with the essentials, although it would have been nice to have some tea/coffee/water provided as part of the room rate to go with the kettle that's there
Room was clean and comfortable with a nice bathroom, the room we were in was much bigger than it looked on the photos (and the balcony was much smaller) so they can vary a lot I think. Some reviews mention the shower was cold, it took some adjustment to get it right but it was anything but cold on the hot side
A safe is available for a €10 deposit which we got back at the end when returning the key
Pool was quiet and clean, and there are nice views over the sea from here too.
Breakfast is a selection of fruit, cereals and pastries, hot drinks and juices. There is the option to have some cooked items ordered fresh which you queue up for so this can take a while
We ate once in the hotel restaurant on the first night, we both enjoyed our meals and thought it was both nice food and good value for what you got, contrary to some other reviews.
The only real negative was the fridge in the hotel room, it was very loud and turned on and off throughout the night which woke us up at times. We didn't complain about it so can't complain too much now as perhaps they would have fixed it if we had.
In summary, a nice quiet hotel with good furnishings and facilities. It's a bit out of town but that's what we wanted, there's still options around to eat (good Italian just 10 minutes walk away). And taxis into the busy areas are only about €5 on Bolt and Uber...
Read moreThe overall rating is 5, but I have some comments as well. My partner and I had a 5-day stay at this hotel and we were very happy with our choice. It is close to several beaches and restaurants, but also to the Marina, which is a main starting point for different activities/trips. We had a sea view room which was perfect- less noisy and more beautiful view. The room is very spacious and has plenty of storage space. However, if you want to use the safe box you have to pay an extra 10 euros- that's not problem in itself, because you receive the money back at check-out, but it would make more sense for it to be automatically included in the room price. I like that the breakfast was open buffet, so many choices to pick from! We also had dinner there twice and we were very satisfied. When it comes to the overall service, I think that there is room for improvement. The housekeeping didn't come daily or sometimes they offered to come in the evening, which doesn't make much sense. The indoor pool area could use more light; the water could be warmer. Furthermore, the indoor jacuzzi didn't work (we raised this with the front desk in the 3rd day, but no resolution until our check out) and we didn't find the outdoor one. Generally, I believe that the indoor facilities could use some refurbishment, as the style/design appears quite outdated. However, there was always someone at the reception ready to help. The communication with the hotel via email before our stay...
