I was here yesterday, again, and again it was great. But after reading some of the comments/reviews here, I would like to explain something. Yes this restaurant is a local place, it is tucked away behind the marina so tourists can't find it. It has the same staff in summer as in winter, they don't lay off people for some months, which means that service in high season, when tourists found it anyway, is sometimes very slow. No there is no menu, you go to the front where the fish is exposed on ice and choose there. That is how it works. If you just sit at your table you are in for a very long wait. No, they hardly speak English, do they speak Portuguese in your local restaurant? Yes they positively discriminate the people who visit the restaurant all year round, because in the slow months their money is very important to them to keep the business going and not laying off anyone. In fact I think that is good business practice. I'm not saying tourists shouldn't go here, by all means come and experience the best fish and seafood in town. But pls understand you are entering rural Portugal, don't complain, don't assume things are the same as "at home", and just enjoy the fantastic food. You will never eat better fish...
Read moreI don’t know if it was because we weren’t locals or that they are just simply racist… but we got really bad service as a black family at this restaurant. Or should I say we got no service at all. It took more than half an hour before a waiter came over so we could finally get a menu/order. They all just walked by our table and pretended they did not see us. After ordering the drinks, we asked if we could also order the fish right away. And the guy just simply walked away! Even if you don’t speak english that is just very rude. We waited more than an hour for our main course, while other tables around us where almost finished. Even locals who came in after us got their food faster than we did. And ofcourse helped more friendlier. What a dissapointment!! I am only giving it one star because the fish was okay, I definitely had better. Also the shrimps were overcooked and dry. If you just want to have a nice diner with your family, just skip this restaurant!! They also charge you for cheap bread, olives and white cheese that you dont even ask for. You could probably have a beter time at one of those tourist spot in downtown...
Read moreRecommended by local and indeed full of locals. There are very few staffs speak English but being patient is the key, someone will take care of you eventually, we didn't wait that long. If you want to eat fresh fish, when you arrive, just walk directly to the showcase of fish and wait there, someone will come take your order. We arrived around 2 PM and picked the fish from the show case without knowing the price (as the person who served us didn't speak English so we didn't ask the price) so were a bit surprised with the price 120 euros. But looking at the quantity we had, it's still reasonable price . 63 euros for 2 tiger king prawns, 25 euros for the gambas shrimp, 28 euros for 2 fish we chose. The fish came with bread/potatoes/salad which is enough for both of us. Fish and shrimp were very fresh and tasty but not so much for the tiger king prawns. We had better in other restaurants in the area. If you would like to spend less money, you can choose a meal from the menu, 15 to 20 euros...
