Funchal Cottages - Pool & Painters Cottage — Hotel in Funchal

My fiancée and I stayed for four nights at Pool cottage in June and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage is in a wonderful location with fabulous views of the town and harbour. We booked directly with Cristina through Funchal Cottages and cannot fault the service we received throughout our stay. Cristina arranged a lovely and very thoughtful welcome basket with local food and drink for us to try. There were also coffee pods for the Nespresso machine and Rituals toiletries in the bathroom. The cottage is a short walk from the old town restaurants and attractions (down a steep hill). We typically took a Bolt taxi when we came back to the cottage (approximately €5) as we usually had shopping from the supermarket to carry. We recommend Pingo Dolce supermarket in the centre as it has a wide selection of fresh food and drink at very reasonable prices. Pool cottage is very comfortable with a large double bedroom, walk in shower and a cosy living room with sofa in between the kitchen and bedroom. We spent most of our time on the terrace and really enjoyed having breakfast and a few after dinner drinks there, whilst enjoying the fabulous views. The pool was quite chilly during our stay, but we still went for a swim everyday. To be fair, it would probably have been warmer if the weather had been better. LOVED Painters Cottage! Swimming pool in the old town is a real joy as the weather was so good and we made the most of it. Fantastic views from the balcony to Funchal harbour, Cristina left us a really thoughtful welcome pack and made us feel very much at home. The weber barbecue was in use most nights as we grilled fish from the market down the road (excellent little grocer up the road with lots of local herbs and vegetables from the gardens nearby). Our third winter break in Funchal and each time we have stayed at one of Cristina's properties.They are all excellently presented and Painters is no exception. Ideal for a couple with great views from the terrace.Walking distance to Old Town and and possible to park a rental car nearby.Cristina is easy to deal with, responds promptly and will always try to accommodate any requests.We have no hesitation in recommending for anyone...
