Let's start with the most important: by far, BEST MEAL we've had in Madeira, hands down.
We crossed Bela 5 last night after a somewhat disappointing dinner, and we found an atmosphere that you'd find in your typical local snack bars; smaller tables and a packed full restaurant with diners, no flashy decorations and just plain and simply, people enjoying their food. We obviously made it a point that today, we'd be waiting behind the door at 7pm so we can flock in as soon as it's open for dinner.
We took garlic bread for starter, a Prego Special as a snack, then a mixed grill and a Picado normal for dinner (and a passion fruit cheesecake...!).
Everything was exquisitely amazing, and superbly fast. We loved every bite - and most of all, we practically experienced all dishes in Madeira during our stay from other restaurants, so we had something to measure up to and compare with. This was by far, heaps and heaps better.
Finally, the white wine Sangria and the Passion fruit Cheesecake, amazing!
Cannot recommend them enough! You won't get a better homely...
Read moreWe came here guided by the reviews but was not worth the time nor the money for the lunch. Our order in the first place was: one hamburger and one tuna steak but the waiter mistaken our order and gave us one sandwich and one portion of pork meat(claimed as the big tuna steak when i've asked). After rediscusing the order he camed with the hamburger and the tuna. Unfortunately the person who ordered in the first place hamburger already ate it.(the waiter informed him after he finished). The tuna steak didn't save the day because it was undercooked(the blood could be seen while slicing the piece) so i've informed the waiter that i can't eat that tuna steak in blood and he took the plate and actually recooked that sliced piece of tuna. All in one the recooked tuna steak had a bad taste of dried blood so i've decided to ask for the check and end the whole circus on an empty stomach. The naughty undercooked tuna steak was only 16 euros. It may be a perfect restaurant option for those who love the...
Read moreA mom and pops place that serves locals and tourists alike. The staff here are super nice and patient if you have any questions. Our 1st time trying Bolo do caco and espada with banana, what a great way and place to start. Decent prices, fresh food and friendly staff. The bolo do caco was perfect! I had seen others that were very doughy, but this was delightful cuz they were thin and heavy handed on the garlic A+++. ( plus it gives you more room for the mains ) The fish was surprisingly white and light, but as for the banana combo it wasn’t for me although it was a very nice sweet tasting banana. Then there was the sandwich, I usually don’t gravitate towards sandwiches, but this one was like OMG for the amount of filling you get inside…yes please!! And was super cheap!! If I lived close to there, i’d be there everyday trying every dish they have. Do yourself a favour and meander over there....
