lisbon park guest house. our hopes were high, however we were to be bitterly disappointed. the room to which we were taken was a far cry from the images we had seen online prior to our trip and resembled more of a prison cell than a bedroom. there was no window (although there was however a wide-open window in the shared bathroom?) and the room was stuffy. we were provided with the luxury of a fan however it put up a feeble struggle against the heat. every door i came across looked near to falling off its hinges and i had little faith in the full functioning of the locks. the bathroom i will admit was clean although there seemed to be nowhere from which to obtain a towel and the aforementioned open, unlockable window did not put me at ease. now, under most circumstances, considering the price we paid, i would be accepting of all this. cheap is cheap. however the straw that broke the camels back was the discovery of an infestation of bed bugs. the place was riddled. i was not, in fact, the lead booker of this trip and made the grave mistake of failing to check the previous reviews before our stay. had i done so i would have discovered many a guest had encountered the unfortunate ordeal. thankfully, the staff were kind and apologetic and, after deciding we could not fulfill the remainder of our intended stay, we were offered a refund for the remaining nights. we are greatly appreciative of the kindness of the staff however overall we found the lisbon park guesthouse to be somewhat sketchy to say the least with a clearly ongoing infestation of bedbugs. we would...
Read moreWe woke up with SO MANY bed bug bites. We told them and they offered to move us to another room the following night. To be nice and to give them a chance (maybe it was just bad luck), we said yes. BIG MISTAKE.
That night, my friend and I found so many big bed bugs in the new room as well (in both our beds)! When we asked to be moved to another hotel in emergency, they said everything was closed. So we had to spend the entire night in the kitchen because we had nowhere to sleep.
We asked to be reimbursed for the stay as we had this traumatic experience (paid for a bed and had nowhere safe to sleep) AND had to spend money to clean all of our things for hours on end. They refused as they said that maybe WE brought the bedbugs...Mind you, this was the FIRST stop of our trip. And while talking with other travellers there, we discovered they were also severely bitten at the hostel!!!
Problem won't be fixed as we saw the employee only putting the blankets in the washing machine and hanging them to dry, whilst bedbugs need to be killed with strong heat.
WORST SERVICE EVER. We tried being comprehensive with the situation at first and only wanted to be treated fairly. Lost so much energy, time and had to live with the physical...
Read moreI couldn't get into the building and they wouldn't answer the phone. I had to sneak in with some other backpacker kids, then stand alone awkwardly in the foyer asking random passers by * I was meant to do next. The office was closed (it was before their closing time) and they didn't answer the two numbers i tried. Eventually a guy arrived and unceremoniously took the city tax and gave me a key. The room was like a little cell, only space for a single cot-bed and enough space to pass by it to the door. It had one small blacked-out window that let onto the kitchen next door and even when shut I could hear everything. One guy sat in the kitchen playing reels loudly on his phone until about 1am. There were mould stains on the lower wall because we were in the basement. The bedding was yellowish but I have no idea if it was ever white so I didn't think too hard about that. I think there were at least 6 rooms, sharing only one toilet. I'm honestly not mad about it; I chose cheap and I got cheap, and thank God I was only staying there to sleep one night before traveling onwards. It was safe and well-located. I just want people to be aware of what they're...
