BEDBUGS.
I write this review with complete honesty. From the title, the rating is obvious. I was bitten 22 times during my stay here. I only noticed the bites on the 3rd day (bedbug bites typically take 1–3 days to appear).
The bites were prevalent on one side of my arm, so at first, I attributed them to the possibility of something biting me while exploring the forests and trails of Madeira. However, after even more bites appeared and putting my naivety aside, I began to suspect bedbugs by the 4th day but checking the bedding it seemed fine. After more bites appeared the next day, I decided to stay up on the 5th and final night to confirm my worst nightmare… and, sadly, I was correct.
As you can see from the pictures, I caught two full bedbugs. I must have dozed off briefly, and they feasted on me. The rest of the night was unbearable and sleepless, and with no receptionist or staff on night duty, I had no option but to wait until morning.
When I showed the staff member at reception what I’d found, I was met with a deceitful attitude. I mentioned having read another review about chemical treatments in rooms, clearly alluding to bedbugs. At first, she claimed she didn’t know what bedbugs were, then suggested I may have picked them up in the forest, as though they’re a natural inhabitant of Madeira! Finally, she said the previous complaints about the “chemical spray” were due to an air freshener, claiming the room had been “sealed” after use. Odd.
It felt utterly useless to explain the severity of the situation further. All I received was a half hearted apology with no remorse. A simple “sorry” might suffice for a minor inconvenience, but not when an establishment knowingly exposes its guests to such a serious issue. While the sight of dead cockroaches around the restaurant was unpleasant, bedbugs are an absolute dealbreaker.
I urge you all: do not risk it with this hotel....
Read moreMixed experience The good: the hotel has a pool and a jacuzzi wich is amazing, and has a lot of cozy corners to sit in with a cool bar on the cliff above you, so this is very good
Now the bad: upon entering we got our Card to open the door, the card didnt work and they had to take out Parts of the handle and give a physical key to make it work, not the best way to start, upon entering we wanted to take a shower, the shower was leaking everywhere, the Small shower head somewhat worked and the rain shower was completely Broken, after this we wanted to sleep, since there is no airco you are forced to sleep with thé window open, there is a crazy amount of noice, wich is i think caused by the engine to keep the pool running, thé kitchen was very loud and the bar above played loud music, i never slept before 2:00 at night in this hotel, this is probably fixable by having a room with sea sight, the breakfast is good except for the bread wich tastes like it's a week old, after telling them the shower was Broken, they tried to fix it when we were just back from a hike, so we had to sit there for an hour, then hearing thé news it wasn't fixable for days, also the floor was extremely dirty cause of the work and they didnt clean up, thé second day they didnt clean our room at all, wich is also not supposed to happen, there is a "gym" wich is just An empty stone floor wich is also dissappionting, overall the hotel has a lot of potential, with some fixing here and there it could be very good but right now, it's just not
Summary: loudest hotel i have ever been in my life, and overall so much problems it's more worrying then relaxing and enjoying, wouldnt recommend at all unless they fix...
Read moreSo badly organised. A group of 10 of us arrived at 3pm after a long day hiking we were ready for a shower. Check in at 2pm apparently but at 3pm none of our rooms were ready. They didn’t have enough cleaners apparently. They did give us a free drink while we waited in the bar. ||We came back at 5pm and eventually checked in. |Went to use the hot tub - which is in a beautiful spot overlooking the sea. Only problem was it was 45degrees in there. So too hot to even get in it. |Requested someone to come and sort it out so that was another 20 minutes or so waiting for that. ||The next day we were being picked up at 8:30 am for our day out so when we asked what time breakfast was, we were quite surprised to be told it was 8 am. After some convincing, they agreed to do breakfast at 7:45. |So far everything about this hotel is difficult and so badly organised .||However, on the plus side they have an amazing hot tub when the temperature is below 40 degrees. Also big credit to the breakfast staff, they do a fabulous job. Room was comfortable although the pillows are awful, thick and foamy. So what started as a bad experience ended ok. I would definitely love them to invest in some basic decent quality pillows. And get some organisation, it’s pretty bad. All in all a beautiful spot and a hotel with loads...
