O Virgilio — Restaurant in São Vicente

This restaurant is amazing. Best value for money in Madeira and absolutely delicious food. We tried and absolutely adored the spadefish with banana, the traditional espetada, the grilled chicken and the codfish. Not to mention the grilled maize and one of their entry dishes of small clams with garlic (in the picture attached). The green and red Venezuelan sauces are a must. And all this at very reasonable prices. A lunch for four with drinks was a little over forty euros. Nelson was our waiter on our two visits and he was great. He explained to us with lots of patience all the details of the menu and answered all our questions. I had a very disappointing experience at this place. The hostess was hostile, making us feel unwelcome from the start. She kept giving side-eyes throughout our visit, which was unprofessional and uncomfortable. To make matters worse, when my baby picked up the menu out of curiosity, she tore it out of their hands in a way that felt unnecessarily harsh.

This level of behavior is unacceptable in any establishment, especially one that’s supposed to cater to all guests, including families. I won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

I just wanted to update this review to say a huge thanks for welcoming and cooking for us several times on our stay! Especially when it was closing time, but unfortunately Google maps wasn't updated, we thought we have time to eat in, they didn't make us feel unwelcome, they treated us friendly.
