I just returned from a trip to Romania where I traveled to Brasov as took a day trip to Castle Bran. Hotel Helis was my headquarters for this adventure. While I knew nothing of Brasov and Romania, my local friend and translator booked the place based off a recommendation from a teacher in the area. Can I just say wow! I loved it!||||If you want a hotel with history and comfort and you don't need the comforts of the modern mess, this is the place for you. Each room has wood burning stoves as heaters that date over 200 years old. Stairs, stairs, stairs no elevator, but the service made me quite the happy camper. Each morning I was there, I went to breakfast that was included in the price and each morning they surprised me with a different breakfast posed in a smiley face display. ||||For evening, my friend and I ate there once or twice and the Owner came out to join us. We had a 5 hour conversation of smart and insightful musings that left me with more things to think about. I can count specifically that the owner was fluent in English and German as well as his native Romanian. Every second I stayed here influenced me to stay longer and longer.||||It's near enough to the train and bus station that one can walk to it with luggage in hand. And once checked in you can take a quick jaunt to Old City's City Hall Square. You will not regret your walk, with beautiful architecture and friendly people everywhere. Around the corner is a minimart they call a magazin where you can pick up bottles of water, and anything else you want. And then on the other side of the Hotel while walking the streets to the Square there is the Three Musketeer Bar. "Lei Trei Muschetarie". Best venue ever!!||||You'll love...
Read moreI price-settled on the Helis for a two week extended stay. The restaurant was really good, offering at least lunch, and dinner options. I was never awake in time to find out if there were breakfast options. I ate there for both lunch and dinner almost every day. The room was small but clean and reasonably well equipped, not laden with heavy traffic or tourists. The owner is an amazing guy, knows how to get around town, speaks multiple languages fluently and will immediately help with any problem at all. I had a sticky lock so he came up and showed me how to pull it just so to not strain the key. This isn't the place for cranky or needy people. It's just a pleasant little out of the way spot to crash out and enjoy yourself. Payment is cash only but there's a bank ATM available near the square not too far away. Honestly, I loved it, but it's a small place run by one or two people at a time so don't expect catering and mints on the pillows. The rooms are meant for sleeping and basic self-maintenance, not so much for living in, as such. When I go back I'll certainly return to the Helis because it fit my needs.||||The only thing I can say that was bad is that I had to go sit in the middle-floor lobby area with the leather couches to use WiFi because the signal was unusable in my room, which was on the...
Read moreWe are three visitors from Varna, Bulgaria, that spent 5 nights in hotel "Helis". | The hotel is located not far from the center of Brasov in a quiet , green district with very clear air. The view from the windows of the rooms is wonderful - towards the mount Tampa and the surrounding hills with neat, small houses and tall, century-old pines. Early in the morning the chime from the church can be heard.| The interior of the hotel is nice too - the walls, the furniture, the curtains, the smooth sheets in the rooms are snow-white and the pillows, the lamps and the bathrooms - blue.| The restaurant is cosy too, arranged with a perfect taste, followng the transilvanian traditions. There you can see traditional vessels and pottery and pictures of the old Brasov. | The cook prepares very tasty meals.| The staff is kind and attentive like all the people in Brasov and Romania - policemen, drivers, shopkeeps, waiters and everybody else.| In this lovely hotel and in the beautiful Brasov with its rich history and museums you will feel like in a dream.| As to us, we hope to return...
