I stayed at Hotel du Palais instead of Hotel de La Poste because it was slightly cheaper and because I like to give smaller, lesser-know hotels a chance, as oftentimes they are much better and a great deal for the price. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case in this instance. The interior of the hotel, as well as my room, was shabby. Worse yet, my room didn't get cleaned at all while I was there. Breakfast was good, and there was a night receptionist who was friendly and was patient with my broken French, but otherwise the staff was distant. I recommend that you splurge and stay at the historic Hotel de La Poste. I kicked myself for not doing so. I also kicked myself for touring Langue de Barbarie with Djiby Tourisme, whose owner I met in the hotel's restaurant. The tour was expensive for what it was and there was no...
Read moreWe visited during Jazz fest week and hotels were booked out everywhere so I felt super lucky when we found a room here. Dudu, the manager, was very helpful and set us up with an introductory tour of the island on horsecart (great idea under a shaded cart). We also had our first meal on the island at the hotel's restaurant and it turned out to be our favorite thieboudienne we had tried. Also at night, amazing live music at the restaurant of the hotel, at least on Thu and Fri nights during Jazz week. This went on till midnight and was loud so if you're planning to sleep before then, keep that in mind for weekends. Rooms were basic but fairly clean, spacious and had a balcony, from which you can people watch. The hotel location is unbeatable. Very centrally located...
Read moreI've been to the bar at this place several times - had great rockin' musical times and a good vibe to the place.||||I read plenty of reviews before picking the actual hotel here, but no one mentioned that it's a bit run-down. The toilets and showers barely, or didn't, work...the hallways/artwork needed a good cleaning. Several areas of the place were dimly lit, including the rooms.||||The upsides were the location, the balconies, the high ceilings + rafters. The staff were also friendly enough. The bedding + room were acceptably clean - and the mattresses exceptionally comfy!||||Breakfast was standard, disappointing sub-par white bread baguette with sub-par marmelades and drinkable coffee. Took really long and was late even though we requested early to head off on...
