Hotel La Residence is a 35 room boutique hotel on 3 floors but no elevator. It is centrally located (one of the best location), easily walkable to clubs and restaurants. English is spoken, sometimes basic at the reception. The lobby is African French Colonial style which adds character to the hotel. In fact, the whole hotel oozes with character. Check in was fast and efficient. |||| As the hotel has no elevator, there is a porter to bring your bags to your room, My suite was tastefully decorated ( although not new) in an African motif with a separate sitting room. The bed was comfortable. and there was a TV in the sitting room. A large bottle of water is provided and there is a refridgerstor and a safe with a key. The bathroom has a combined tub and shower(European style shower) with basic bathroom amenities.||||There is a bar and restaurant on the ground floor. The bar is a perfect place to relax and has colonial charm. The drink prices are no higher and sometimes cheaper than other establishments in the area. Breakfast is served from 7 to 10. It is a European breakfast, not fresh juices and no eggs to order were offered. You should get there before 9 as they don't regularly replenish the buffet- There was very little food when I arrived at 9. Communicating in English to the waitstaff during breakfast can be challenging.||||.Overall, I had a pleasent stay. I loved the decor and the ambiance. The staff were friendly and helpful. It is a perfect place to stay in a...
Read moreMy wife and myself lived in Senegal (Dakar) in the mid/late 80s and we are now paying our first return visit since then catching up on some of our old haunts.||||We are currently in Saint-Louis which - unlike Dakar which has changed dramatically (not all - I might add - for the better), particularly the Island, was much the same. This view was reinforced by our stay at the Hotel La Residence which is a delightful colonial property full of lovely artefacts - especially in the ground floor bar and restaurant areas.||||Our room was comfortable with lovely hot water in the stand alone shower. We had a corner room (#101) which offered two street views and convenient access to all the property’s amenities. F & B standards are high and we both enjoyed our breakfast and dinners - supplemented by friendly service.||||All in all, a most enjoyable experience and would challenge visitors to Saint-Louis to find a more comfortable or congenial...
Read moreI would take what other reviewers have said with a pinch of salt.
The rooms aren't incredible but it's important to bare in mind you are on a small island and in a very old hotel. Our shower leaked slightly but otherwise there was nothing wrong with the space, an air-conditioner was provided.
The staff were fantastic, the woman at front desk when we stayed helped us change our money and organised cheap transport from St Louis to Dakar.
We also arrived a day earlier than planned (don't ask) and they put us up in a room at short notice and also moved our baggage between rooms.
The bar is solid with a good selection of drinks (gin and bissap was a stand out) it's also just a nice place to hang out for a drink. The restaurant is nothing to write home about but there are many great eateries within a couple of blocks so that shouldn't...
