We were really shocked when we checked into this dirty, smelly Jayleen hotel with a broken air conditioner and spent an awful first night in the 30°C Singaporean heat. |In the early morning, we were woken up by the construction site next door to the hotel with drilling and hammering. It looked like our room hadn't been cleaned at all before our check-in; greyish, spotty sheets and towels, hair, dirt and dust everywhere. |We complained about the issues to the manager and after that we received a the same dirty room, even dirtier towels, same greyish spotty sheets, no toilet paper, and we found a rubbish bin on our bed! Really?! He explained that his housekeeper had not shaken the dust and hair from the towels properly, had forgotten about the toilet paper, and had accidentally left the bin on our bed. Unprofessional!|After a couple of days, we discovered that we had been bitten by bed bugs!!! My son was really scared to sleep there! |Our holiday was completely ruined in this Jayleen hotel.|Staying for 9 nights, we didn't receive any room cleaning or changing of sheets, woken up every morning with the construction noise next door and bitten by bed bugs. |The shower had mouldy and dirty tiles and didn't have any curtains, and after a couple of minutes of showering, it was creating a pool of water that was spilling over onto the toilet next to it. Not to mention the foul smelling body wash they provided. The wallpaper was ripped off and dirty. The safe was broken and wasn't mounted to anything. The beds are small and old, the pillows and mattresses are really hard, uncomfortable and smell old. Curtains were like crumpled paper coming off the hooks. The windows have dust and dirt from 1918, when Jayleen was built, we assume. The laundry on the upper floor was disgusting and dirty. |Not recommended!|Stay away from...

Before starting to write the review I looked through what others have written, and was shocked. I even looked at street view to make absolutely sure it is the same hotel we have stayed in. |Three points to mention in the beginning: First, it was the only option to stay in the center within the budget, all other options meant either hostels etc, or commuting. Second, usually I don't go over rooms with magnifying glass. Third, we stayed only for one night.|So, considering all this, we were completely satisfied. Sure, it is not the finest hotel in the world, but we haven't found anything negative. Space is limited and things are not freshest and most modern, but they work and are clean. Hot water is OK. Breakfast is there, selection is reasonable and food is perfectly edible, kind of food that you fill your stomach with and forget about. And it starts really early, in winter even before sunrise, which is a great thing for me. |Many reviews of the hotel that I read before booking mention "horrible stink in elevator". When riding the elevator for second or third time I suddenly remembered about it, and smelled the air. Indeed, there was light chemical odeur, to which I wouldn't have paid any attention, if not for those reviews. |Definitely positive things are:|1) Location - walkable to both Buddha's Tooth Temple and Merlion; metro station 2 minutes away.|2) View from rooftop cafe.|3) Owners are very helpful and go above and beyond, if you ask nicely.|Generally, the place is perfectly OK if you don't expect small family-run hotel to be a...

Had high hopes as hotel is well placed. Sadly as you walk in the lobby, it's dirty, smells damp and very tired looking. Man on reception desk was very pleasant. Rooms were on 3rd floor, damp, musty smell strong in the lift too. Rooms very tired looking, holes in curtains, wallpaper coming of walls and crampt. Again constant smell of damp, mould in bathroom, found a long hair in the bed, air conditioning unit fan not working properly, side of it had duct tape on it. Unfortunately there was a rather large cockroach which emerged from the sink area. As we'd arrived late, we went straight out for food and decided we would stay the night check out the following morning. When we did this and said to the same man on reception that we weren't happy with the room, bugs, smell etc and wasn't as shown in the pictures, he was very understanding and offered change of room which we declined. He agreed to refund us for 1 night which we thought was sincere. However when back home we processed request via booking website and the hotel has refused to refund, which was very disappointing. I would not recommed staying...

a simple hotel at a reasonable price. it's just by clarke quay station which is about 25 minute taxi ride from airport. reception is open 24/7 so no dramas about late check in. the guy at reception was super friendly and recommended we head straight upstairs to the rooftop to get the city views of all the lights over the financial district and marina bay sands. in the morning we made a coffee in our room and headed back up there to take in the daytime cityscape. the breakfast was a range of hot dishes like beans, noodles, rice and curry and also selection of cereals, juice and coffee. the hot food isn't labelled so was hard to tell what was vegetarian or not so had to ask staff. we stayed in the economy double room with no windows. it was fine for us as we were only really using the room to sleep for one night but if you're staying a few nights I recommend spending a bit more on a bigger room with windows. the bed was right up against the wall and the sheets were stained which was a off-putting. shower pressure and hot water was good. make sure if you want hot water to turn the switch on. wifi worked fine but not on rooftop.

Customer service really good. Emailed them to get early check in and received almost immediate response. Checked in smoothly. Place has a vintage decor that takes you back in time. You can see that the rooms are visibly run down, wood floors split, grime and dust balls on walls and ceiling. Bed is uncomfortable and you can see it's the movable kind. There were some stains on the sheets when we arrived as well. That aside, the other things were great! There was a safe box, weighing scale, large wardrobe, bidet. Toilet was the cleanest (haha), towels fresh and the soap smells great. It was a rather alright if you can't find another place to stay at. We enjoyed ourselves here, it was homely and quiet. If you ever check in here, do check out their view at the rooftop!

I'm seeing some of the reviews saying that it is clean and nice but I think that depends on the room you get. The lobby is very clearly dirty and old and the room we were in had bugs and was very cramped. Also our AC was not working which was very annoying. Also our room had no shower curtain so everything in the washroom is wet after a shower, including the toilet that is NEXT to the shower. I guess if you want a cheap price and don't care too much then go for it but if you're used to normal hotels then this is not for you.
