Dropped by EC Coffee & Bar and left feeling like I’d just discovered my new go-to spot in town! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with just the right mix of cozy and chic — perfect for both a casual catch-up or a quiet solo meal.

I ordered a Latte, and wow — it came with beautifully done latte art that almost made me not want to drink it (almost 😏). Smooth, well-balanced, and aromatic — definitely one of the better lattes I’ve had around Carpenter Street.

For mains, I went with the medium-rare sirloin, and it was heaven on a plate. Juicy, tender, and cooked to perfection — each bite was melt-in-your-mouth goodness. It paired so well with the cozy café vibes that I almost forgot I was still in the city.

And then came dessert: their homemade chocolate cake. According to the young and sweet lady boss, lower in sugar (less sinful 😅) Rich, moist, and decadent without being overly sweet — the kind of cake that makes you pause mid-conversation just to savour the moment. Honestly, pure bliss 🍫✨.

The rating was a solid 5 stars so I had high expectations. But when the coffee arrived mediocre, I was wondering why the ratings and my experience did not tally. I got my answer when the staff approached and asked us to leave a 5 star review for a free cheesecake. (The staff returned again later to ask if we have done the review yet, which we rejected.)

“EC” in their name stands for entrepreneur chick, and they are trying to compete in a sea of established F&B players. To be competitive, a flood of fake 5 star reviews won’t help, but honest constructive feedback.

The coffee seems to be overly extracted as it didn’t really have much of a flavour profile. For a place that has “coffee bar” in its name, I would have expected a whole lot better. The cinnamon french toast was also really dry and had a strange texture (like pound cake, when it should be more bread-like).

House-made mushroom soup was average but the bread that came with it was really good.

While the staff was friendly and helpful with my questions about food allergies, they would only speak in mandarin and could barely speak any english. 🥲 I think basic english proficiency should be the bare...
