The only reason I'm not giving 2-stars is because the staff, food, and atmosphere was amazing and because they gave us a room change / "upgrade".
The first room we got.....I'm baffled. The curtains were cheesecloth. They let in so much light. On top of that, the bathroom was see-thru. There was a curtain covering part of it, but not the front. And the shower is positioned right against the door, so anyone passing in or out of the room will see your a$$ while you shower. So there's this glass box that has half of a cheesecloth....and then no shutter on the window in the bathroom.....which lets in even MORE LIGHT. So there's light streaming into the room from multiple sources.
There's also a hole in the glass....?!?! So everything you do in the bathroom will absolutely be heard and smelled by your partner.
I had already slept poorly the previous 3 nights at another hotel, so we thought a pricier hotel would help. I slept worse here.
We asked for a refund or room change. They gave us a room that had good curtains and AC (which normally costs more). So at first I was thankful. But the bed in this new room wasn't on box springs, it was on a flat, wooden frame. The mattress was as hard as a futon. The pillows were also those big square kind that deflate as soon as you lie on them. I woke up multiple times during the night in pain. Our second night there, my husband admitted that he also woke up in pain -- so it wasn't just me.
Admittedly, I have a lot of anger built up from the previous hotel (and my lack of sleep has made me snappier, no doubt) so it's not entirely the fault of this hotel, but it angers me endlessly that hotels have a no refund policy and yet it feels like every hotel is basically saying "Hey, you're going to sleep terribly here.... it's just a fun little secret on HOW we're going to cut corners so that you're always slightly uncomfortable no matter what you do or what you pay. Surprise!"
Seriously though, I've stayed at basic hotels that were far more comfortable. I am resentful of the cost of this place and the quality of sleep. Quality sleep should be the first priority when designing the room--then focus on decor and the dining.
That being said, the hotel and surrounding area was absolutely gorgeous. And the breakfast was excellent -- both a small buffet + made-to-order omelettes, bacon, and vegan porridge options.
The hotel also has a very sweet cat that they feed who hangs around. She was adorable. The staff was very friendly and helpful with recommendations on...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing experience! We stayed at DOMA as well as dined there and both were really unforgettable moments.
There’s a SPA in the basement that looked amazing too, but we didn’t get to visit it.
The environment:
It’s located in an old part of town (I believe the house itself was from 13th century) and the whole square is amazingly well preserved in the traditional gothic style. The area is fairly quiet and its restaurants and bars are all done in a tasteful traditional manner. Really nice to walk around, not too traffic-y.
The hotel:
The room, just like the whole building, was made and equipped with custom furniture and fittings, making it feel very luxurious, comfortable and cozy.
There is no lift as far as I know.
The dinner:
The amuse bouche was already a showstopper; home made sourdough bread (the best sourdough bread I’ve ever had!) with a caramelised butter.
For main, the lamb dish was absolutely spectacular, really soft and served with lovely mash and some green leaves with a really nice dressing.
For drinks, the draft beer was good and refreshing. The Aperol Spritz was nice enough.
The breakfast:
The chef-grade bread in egg (chlieb na vajci) was nothing short of delicacy. You could also get other traditional Slovak meals like semolina (krupicna kasa) but we were already too full, so haven’t tried it. The coffee was absolutely amazing. Both the latte and flat white.
Thank you so much team DOMA for making us feel “ako doma” (like at home). 🫶

Kravský syr s nektarinkou, šalátom, uhorkou a slnečnicovými semienkami vytvoril ladné spojenie sviežosti a jemnej ovocnosti.
English – A culinary ode woven from wonder
Dining at DOMA U NÁS is not merely eating, it is a gentle journey across fields of flavor and meadows of memory. Each plate delivers a narrative, each bite resonates with elegance and warmth.
The trout with white radish, kefir, caviar, dill and hazelnuts opened the evening like a fresh breeze brushing across a mountain lake. The cow cheese dish, adorned with nectarine, greens, cucumber and sunflower seeds, was a hymn of subtle sweetness and garden freshness.
The main courses reached the heights of culinary poetry. The pike-perch, tender and full of character, combined early cabbage, crispy bacon and delicate tarhonya into a song of soil and water. The duck breast, paired with cherries, cauliflower and hazelnuts, unfolded as a painting in flavor and texture.
Then came the grand finale. Elderflower and raspberry, transformed into ice cream, mousse and a crisp chip, brought the scent of blooming orchards to the table. The Zemlovka, a dream of apple, curd and egg liqueur, spoke of comfort, tradition and childhood joy.
This was more than a meal. It was a celebration of nature, passion and culinary artistry. DOMA U NÁS is a treasure of taste.
Deutsch – Ein kulinarisches Gedicht voller Glanz
