Pension Tavel — Hotel in Prešov

First off, you need to remember that this accommodation is in Presov, not a major city by any stretch, so expectations need to be managed. We were in room 8 on the 3rd floor……heat rises and there was no A/C, so our room was a little stuffy. There was a fan so we made the best with that. Leaving a window open overnight provided some relief but the room never got “cool” by my standards. The bathroom was big enough, but the shower unit was over-teched and most of it didn’t work. There were three different spray nozzles available; a handheld shower head, a rain-shower head, and those new-fangled groin angle spray nozzles. The rain-shower head was overly clogged with deposits to the point where water was shooting every which way. The spray nozzles didn’t provide enough water flow and, good luck getting your head low enough to rinse out shampoo. Luckily, the handheld shower head worked well enough. There was also an LCD panel that was supposed to turn on a light (and a radio maybe) but the power button did nothing. Oh well, there was hot water and we managed to get clean. The TV had a few channels to keep you amused. The included breakfast had enough to fill your stomach and an espresso machine provides the morning cappuccino (yea!). There was also a fairly well-stocked bar available. Off-street parking was nice, and the location is a block or two off a main square where there are cafes to sit and relax while enjoying a beer (or two)....

We stayed there in January, 2020. It's a horrible place to be! The room was clean but that was about it what we liked. They are saving money on their heating bills, so when it's -5°C outside - the radiator in the room was cold. When at night you are trying to find someone to complain, you won't find anyone. Situation is changing by the morning, the heaters are ON and if you start to complain you look like an idiot because they don't know what you are talking about. Soundproof of the rooms is crap, you will hear everyone walking above you. The last thing was the breakfast, 2 scrambled eggs without any bacon or sausage only ¼ of a tomato on the plate. Coffee is a disaster as well. Don't believe all those positive reviews! But if you are forced to stay there for some reason - don't pay in advance, wait till morning and...

It was a big luck for us to find and stay in Pension Tavel. Hotel has a great location in the downtown, but it's still quite that is important for a good rest. A lot of restaurants are around. We had a nice room for two on the 3rd floor. There were tea, coffee and electric kettle in the room. Among additional positive points: elevator in the building, free parking spots in the yard of hotel.
