We took a mid-winter weekend breakaway to idyllic Clarens, one of many weekends there over the last few years. As for accommodation, one is spoiled for choice in this beautiful village town as to the very many options of guest lodges, B&B’s and self-catering holiday homes.||||Because of our zest to always discover new, comfortable, great quality and value-for-money lodgings, we tried for the first time the Periwinkle Blue self-catering holiday home. In short: we ‘struck gold’, a gem, a stone’s throw away from the village centre (two blocks to walk). Our pleasure of the impeccable lodging was only matched by the superb, hands-on service of our booking agent, Gavin from Country Stay, who went of his way to assist during the one or two times when we needed it. ||||As for the house: four (4) beautifully appointed, all-en suite bedrooms, two downstairs, two upstairs, all with underfloor heating; large tastefully-decorated reception areas – downstairs lounge with gas fireplace, large dining room, lovely sunny upstairs double lounging area; no less than four patios attached to the house and a lovely outside boma-style braai area. The designer, eye-catching garden (even in winter-time) rounds off the picture. All of this comes with a beautiful view to Horeb Mountain in front of you and lovely views further beyond.||||Given all of this, we thought the rental per-person-per-night rate was very agreeable, so, our expectations were generally well exceeded. Well done – thank you to the owners, and notably to Gavin (with staff Dolores and Dinah). We will be back, and we shall...
Read moreIf you are planning to go to the amazing town of Clarens,I strongly recommend you don't stay at The Periwinkle Blue Guesthouse.Especially if you are going on a honeymoon. The accommodation isn't bad, although there aren't any fans nor air conditioning in the rooms. The attitude of the lady who runs it was extremely disappointing.I informed her well in advance that it was our 'honeymoon'.We literally got married the night before we arrived. We were on such a high and were looking forward to spending a romantic weekend together.Nothing from the guesthouse made this a special trip for us.Not even a rose petal on the bed. This and other circumstances made us feel extremely uncomfortable. We will most definitely return to Clarens, but will never stay at this guest...

The manager Sanmarie's communication was great.||||On arrival we were so pleasantly surprised because past experience has tought us that guest houses are seldom as great as they seem on the web. Periwinkle Blue is better!||||The rooms are beautifully furnised and clean, extremly clean and well maintained.||||Clarens is one of our favourite places and were definately going back to...
