La Mer B&B is a descent, safe , secure and clean place which I believe is perfect for a quick stay over or what I would consider an overnight accommodation. I would not recommend it as a family getaway nor holiday accommodation. But it suited my needs well in terms of what I needed for this trip. Also considering the cost factor for 2 adults and 1 child for 4 days it was perfect. Rooms are cleaned daily & replaced with clean fresh towels. No issues with staff & services as they were very helpful & kind. The breakfast is very basic but the staff is most accommodating. Although not strictly Halaal ,they do cater for this dietary need by using separate utensils etc. Supper orders are also available via a menu on order. Good location as its close to the beach & within driving/walking distance (1-2 km ) from many popular SA Restaurants, Board Walk , Fast Food Takeaways & Mosque. The famous Bay View West mall is just 15/20 mins drive away.I stayed over in the family room for 4 days and it was most comfortable. There is a nice outside entertainment area, outside BBQ facilities alongside the pool. There is also a communal microwave oven this area. These facilities are accessible to all patrons 24/7. The downside was that my family room opened up onto the driveway parking area. This was not a problem for me, but I can I see it being a bit disruptive if accompanied by small kids. The one opening sliding door also opens up on a little porch straight onto the driveway parking. So little to no privacy. At approx. 7am & 5pm daily be prepared for a number of overhead aircraft landing at the airport close by. Based on my next trip needs I will consider La Mer once more. Thanks for the great...
Read moreA colleague and I stayed at this guesthouse from 3 to 8 March 2019 while attending a Worksession in Port Elizabeth. What a great choice this was! Our hosts, Jaco and Suzaan, made us feel welcome from the minute we arrived. My room was beautiful and squeeky clean and although I was on the ground floor (Room 3) I could still see the sea when standing outside my room. The breakfasts, which included fresh fruit salad every morning, were served in a diningroom with a seaview and were varied every morning. The coffee at breakfast was probably the best coffee I've ever tasted (Caffè Don Carlos I think?). The location was perfect as we were about a 5 minute drive from the Military base where we had our worksession and the airport. It is also very close to the Waterfront shopping centre and The Boardwalk Casino complex is also close by. There was safe and adequate free parking inside the premises. Their free wifi was great and I never had any problem connecting to it. There was also a fridge and coffee/tea making facilities in the room. If ever I go to Port Elizabeth again La Mer will definitely be the...
Read moreI stayed at La Mer Guest House twice in September - for 2 nights each time. The first night we arrived late, and Jason was waiting for us with a big smile and helpful attitude. The room was great, beds and pillows were very comfortable! We had breakfast and dinner there and both were very good! The staff always had a smile and were very friendly and helpful. The second time I was there, Nicole was on duty and she was so welcoming! Love her huge smile :). I stayed in a different room, but the bed and pillow were as good as the previous visit. I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow which is very unusual - even at home. Although the guesthouse is in the flight path to the airport, I only heard planes go over twice a day. Small sacrifice for such a nice place with awesome staff, so close to the airport! I would definitely stay there again if I was in Port Elizabeth and would not hesitate to...
