Review of Hyatt House, Sandton Johannesburg||I have never in my life left a negative review, but my recent stay at the Hyatt House Sandton Johannesburg was disappointing from beginning to end, and it’s important to share.||Before arriving, I messaged the hotel to make simple requests, including connecting rooms or rooms across the hall. I never received a reply. Upon check-in, I was given the exact opposite of what I had requested. Tired from long travel, I let it go and went to sleep — but that was only the beginning.||In my first room, the air conditioning didn’t work, the TV didn’t work, and there was no iron despite it being a standard amenity. I used the hotel’s messaging platform to request washcloths — no response. I called the front desk for both an iron and washcloths, and neither was delivered before I had to leave for dinner. Later that evening, I explained all this to the front desk. The young man was kind and apologetic and even tried to fix the TV himself, but ultimately I was moved to another room — at midnight.||The second room had working air conditioning, a TV, and an iron, but it lacked basic bathroom amenities (lotions, soaps, and a full set of towels). I had to carry these items over from my first room myself. Even after two days, housekeeping never brought washcloths. When I finally called again, a staff member delivered just one, with no greeting, no apology, and an attitude that made it seem like I was inconveniencing him.||Things got worse. A few days later, while preheating the oven to reheat food, it suddenly exploded — glass shattered across the kitchen floor. Thankfully, I was wearing slippers. Maintenance arrived, said I’d need to move again, and returned with a new room key — without apology and without involving a manager. This was now my third room.||The third room was further away from the other room in my reservation and once again missing amenities. The TV repeatedly shut off on its own, the bedside sconces didn’t work, and the room phone didn’t even have a cord, so I couldn’t call the front desk. To make matters worse, the room faced the pool and the Treehouse restaurant area, where I was subjected to late-night noise from staff and guests, as well as smoke billowing into my room from the outdoor pizza oven whenever I opened the sliding door.||Throughout my stay, the only consistent positive was the kindness of one front desk agent, who repeatedly had to hear my complaints and tried to help. I declined moving yet again to a fourth room. He assured me a manager would contact me, but no one ever did.||As someone with a long career in luxury hospitality, I am very understanding of operational challenges. But the number of issues I faced here — from lack of communication to broken amenities, poor service follow-through, and even a dangerous appliance incident — is unacceptable for any hotel, let alone one carrying the Hyatt name.||Unfortunately, I will not return to this property on future visits to Johannesburg and am seriously reconsidering my loyalty to the Hyatt...

Read moreMost shocking guest relations and hotel experience. This hotel should still be in its honeymoon period, but wow tired. Checked in to room 215 which was not prepped to receive guests, Samsung flat screen not working, Adel the front of office & HOD sarcastically asking me is it switched on, and then proceed to ask is there a remote and is it switched on. Minutes later she came up to the room to try and fix commenting that "this is strange, it has never done this before. Not enough towels for amount of checked guests, and 1/2 roll of toilet paper. We were then moved to room 219 by Lovemore from maintenance. This room appeared at least ready to accept guests, that feeling was short lived, the amenities in the toilet was broken and empty incl the shower, with no shower gel. Lucky we brought our own. Dinner was shocking.at checkin I enquired, Thoka the receptionist indicated there is a wedding that should finish by 5pm, Adel also confirmed the same and said 6pm after which dinner will be served. During the afternoon still went back to reception for a menu, couldn't find in the room. They asked that I take a photo... anyway we went down just after six, function was still occupying the restaurant. I placed an order with Richard to avoid a longer wait. Seating was prepared at the door of restaurant and we were eating whilst people were clearing up the restaurant. Richard also prepared us some #Starbucks cappuccinos, fast fwd to 21h05 and a knock on the door, I opened up and Thoka offered me an upgrade, I declined thinking really.. anyway another hour later and the fire alarm are activated in my room. I go downstairs to reception and find Adel, the housekeeper that brought the toilet roll placed on the table where I was sitting on my laptop, another guy eish trying to explain the emergency that wasn't. Anyway the bed was made up with no flat sheet, also for a 6month old mattress, you could feel the joints Dinner was great and #Starbucks was shocking. We went to breakfast at 9h30 .. this was a sad, sad state of affairs ..breads looks lonely with no croissants, buffet was cold and no option given to order from the menu. All in all the food was actually quite good. Room 219 had no soundproofing, the acoustics is very bad. I could hear cars in road reffing etc. You can also hear all sorts of sounds interesting the roof and doors etc.. after the fire alarm I was on high alert. On checkout Adel was there again, I gave her the last feedback, I also shared that I placed an initial poor review on Facebook. Adel response was.. "Thank you for your feedback" she said at least 2 or 3 times. FINAL WORD: Go spend your money and time somewhere else, it is not worth the stress, rudeness, substandard hygiene &cleanliness. GO...
