Colin and Nathalie were by far the best hosts we've had on our South Africa trip so far. They were super welcoming, gave us lots of tips and were always on hand if we needed anything. They even provide coolers for all guests so that you can take cool drinks or food with you if you're out and about all day. We would have loved to stay another night! Don’t worry if you might have trouble speaking English - Colin also knows some German, French and Dutch and probably some other languages as well ;)
Colin even gave us his cell phone number, so if we needed any help in South Africa, we could just get in touch with him. Would definitely love to book again!
We’ve had the large room with a king bed and a separate room with 3 single beds. It used to be the old garage he told us, but of course it’s renovated and doesn’t feel like a garage anymore ;) The room was so welcoming and comfortable. We’ve had two large bathrooms with lots of space and a large shower with a proper shower door (so no water in front of the shower or the whole bathroom).
Breakfast was amazing with different types of bread, baked foods, a good variety of cheese and meat/sausages, a whole bunch of different fruits, jam and honey. You can also additionally have hot breakfast such as scrambled eggs or omelette (with different ingredients).
The swimming pool looked pretty neat and well maintained, although we didn’t have any time to spend some time in there. Location is perfect in St. Lucia, only a few minutes to the beach, the wetlands as well as the restaurants and shops. Also: trust Colin’s recommendations there, restaurants for dinner were perfect as well as the princess wrap from Kauai :)
Overall near perfect experience - only “negative” thing: we’re sad we didn’t...
Read moreColin gave us a warm welcome and is happy to help you plan your trip. He has great tips for the surrounding area, such as a boat tour to see hippos and crocodiles. He also recommends the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve, which is just over an hour's drive away. During the wintertime, it's recommended to visit this park with a guide, so you don't have to drive in the dark in the early morning (5 am). For dinner, there are plenty of restaurants in St Lucia that ‘tastes like home’. Greek food, Sushi, Seafood, and much more.
The room is spacious and equipped with coffee and tea making facilities. There's a shared refrigerator in the lobby/breakfast room. Unfortunately, our room smelled of strong cleaning products, but it was very clean. Our room was also adjacent to the breakfast buffet, we could see (through trouble glass) and hear other guests enjoying their breakfast all morning. That was a bit of a sleep killer for us. Although the breakfast woke us up, it was delicious.
We did not see any hippos during nighttime, but if you want to stay at a very special place where you can walk safely over street (unless there are hippo’s), St Lucia Wetlands Guest House is your...
Read moreThere are so many positives to staying at St. Lucia Wetlands Guesthouse. They had the best breakfasts we had in our 5-week stay in SA. The garden is beautifully landscaped, and the entire guesthouse is tastefully decorated with interesting and unique items. Colin and Natalie are wonderful hosts and very knowledgeable about the area and gave valuable advice during our stay. They have thought of everything to make your stay as pleasant as possible. For example, the room had plenty of space to store luggage out of the way. The bathroom had plenty of space to put your toiletries. The list goes on and on. The staff is remarkable, Clement even washed and vacuumed our car! The laundry service was also perfect.||St. Lucia is a wonderful little town, walkable and safe with plenty to do. We spent six nights there which was...
