Mercer House Boria Bcn — Hotel in Barcelona

It was a really disappointing stay. We had stayed there before in 2017 and things had diminished significantly since then. The bathroom was really gross. The shower leaked through the shower door and wall and flooded the floor. The room was advertised as having a kitchen, but although there were appliances present, some of them, like the stove, were disconnected. So, basically it was just a fridge and a coffee maker which would be in any hotel room and not worth the premium price of having a kitchen. The staff was also very mixed. One of the front desk representative was great, but the others were much less hospitable. There were also other tacky things like the hotel didn't replace soap and shampoo after the first day and wanted to charge us 1 euro per coffee pod after the first night. We were there for 5 days and spent a lot of money at this hotel and it really wasn't remotely worth it. The location was good. which is why they get 2 stars instead of one star. We had high hopes for this hotel, based on the pictures online. Unfortunately, the reality ended up being very different. We were shocked to find a cockroach in the lobby shortly after we arrived (picture attached). The lobby also has a terrible sewer smell. There was a hair in a cereal bowl that was in the kitchen (pictures also attached). In addition, the nonfunctional dishwasher is moldy. After coming back from grocery shopping with ingredients to prepare a meal, we realized that we did not have a sponge, soap, dish towel, etc…. we asked for these items at the front desk, but were told we would not need them because the kitchen is nonfunctional. However, the kitchen is clearly shown and advertised in online/promotional photos of the hotel. On a side note, there is insufficient lighting in the room, a lack of outlets on the walls, and quite a few light switches that seem to not work or be connected to anything. I stayed with my wife and 2 children, me for work and them to enjoy the city. The property was in a busy part of the Gothic Quarter so we knew that it would be busy, but it was not as loud as we expected and the sound insulation was good. ||The room itself was spacious and leant itself very well to our experience.||The staff on the desk were very pleasant, as were those doing the cleaning.||We didn't eat breakfast at the property so couldn't comment on this.||Building work next door did begin at 0800, but as we had the kids we were up by then anyway, although I could see how it could be an issue for others.||The location is outstanding. Less than 5 minute walk to the Metro and so much of the city available within walking distance to cater for the majority of tastes.||Experiences are individual.
