Beautiful setting, shame about the service.
We really wanted to love this place & we're super excited about visiting Cadaqués, however whilst the setting / decor is lovely & our room was comfortable (if a little cold in February - not much heating/insulation) our stay was let down by the sub-standard service.
We came to the conclusion that the hotel was very under staffed as just one person seemed to be responsible for check-in/check-out, preparing & serving breakfast and clearing away plates.
The result was a poor welcome - we were ignored for 10 minutes whilst the receptionist finished a telephone call (not even a nod/smile of acknowledgment), then told her tuer check-in was not until 4pm (no suggestion that they would let us know if earlier would be possible and no offer of anywhere to change / freshen up after our journey).
When we returned to check in after 4pm our bags were still in left luggage & we received a similarly lack lustre welcome from the new receptionist who just asked for a credit card rather than actually welcoming us. Not really a problem to move our own luggage to our room, but also not what we'd expect from a 4*hotel that cost €250 a night off season!
Breakfast similarly chaotic. No serving utensils for anything, plates ran out, food ran out, glasses ran out, not enough cutlery. It was very unclear what was self-service and what was table service and questions were met with shrugs/instructions to wait. It really spoiled the stay as we felt more like inconveniences rather than guests.
The understaffing was clearly not the staff's fault/responsibility, but the attitude / treatment of guests absolutely was. Some training on basic hospitality skills was sorely needed
Great views of Cadaqués &...
Read moreSo we checked into this hotel which is decorated as an homage to Dali and his wife Gala. Our drive here from Barcelona was fraught with the twisty turns and trying to find the hotel once we reached the town of Cadaques with the roads the width of our car and Google maps not exactly being on target and trying with the help of the receptionist at the hotel trying to get us here with her friendly voice but difficulty in communicating in English. We ultimately found the hotel and lot adjacent without any major damage to our psyche. We hugged the receptionist and scuttled to our room and decompressed with a hotel provided bottle of wine waiting for us in the room from the hotel management. We had a wonderful tapas dinner at Batalla and the next morning had a wondrous trip to Dali’s house. All of this is leading me back to the afternoon the next day where after a gin and tonic was able to truly see the beautifully appointed boutique hotel in all its wonderful decorative Dali touches. Such a sublime experience I had to to relate this. The pool, the lobby and hallways are very elegantly presented with beautiful pieces of furniture and reproduced and original artwork. Well worth booking...
