The stunning decor and views mean sufficiently less when your room is full of ants and the staff are nothing but rude…..
Me and my boyfriend have just returned from staying in Elba sunset, when we arrived we checked into our room at reception we felt as though all the other guests also checking in got a more in dept guide of the hotels facilities, times for breakfast, things around the area etc. we were asked to sign, pay a foreigner fee and given our keys. As we are young we didn’t thing much into this but in reality everyone should be treated with the same interest for the price you are paying for a 4 star hotel.
When we got to our room we unpacked instantly as we had to wait to check in so we wanted to make the most of our day, we spent the day out came back got changed and went back out for dinner(I say this to show we were not in the room to leave the balcony open for any ants to get in) we had seen 1/2 ants on the counter at this point but thought nothing of this as 1/2 isn’t a big deal , seen no point in kicking up a fuss
we returned from dinner we were wrecked as we had an early flight and 2 hours sleep, we got changed and when we went to get into bed there were ants on our pillows which is where we started getting concerned. We had a look around and found a lot more than 1/2 around the room.
We went down to reception and I kindly asked to be moved room as excessive ants in our room and ants in my bed is where I get uncomfortable, we were dealing with a young lady but it was very obvious that her manager was the one making the calls, he wouldn’t speak to us directly despite being stood beside the lady, he would speak in Spanish and make the lady speak to us (he spoke English)
He said a cleaner will be sent up so we agreed and went back to our room, a cleaner then followed us up and when I opened the door all she had brought with her was a spray and a sweeping brush! She only swept the floor…. So I asked her could she change the sheets as I am not sleeping with ants, she didn’t speak English so could not understand. I rang reception and again said can you move us to another room as sweeping the floor isn’t going to do anything they are on the counters and the bed, again my request was ignored and they said they will change the sheets.
So again we waited for the cleaner to return, she brought new sheets and changed the bed, but while changing the bed she placed the old sheets on my boyfriends clothes so now there is ants on his clothes, I spotted more ants on the counter when I showed the cleaner she pushed them from the counter on to the floor where our open suitcases were laying with my bikinis etc that I cannot hang ( the cleaner was also extremely rude to us and didn’t give me the chance to say anything as she walked out with a smart “Gracias”)
I knew the ants would appear back on the bed so instead of going back down again, I simply waited and took any photos I could of ants after my room was “cleaned”.
Within 2 minutes of the cleaner leaving our room more ants….. at this point I was tired and quite frankly over being treated so poorly I paid for a hotel that is 4 stars and cost us a lot of money.
I went back down and for the third time asked for another room as I am not sleeping with ants in my bed, again the manager refused to speak to us, we made the girl aware that we knew it wasn’t her fault and she is under instructions from a manager, He finally spoke and said he will get a cleaner up to the room again…. I said no to this and asked for another room, the reply was we have no rooms similar to yours left you will have to pay the 400 and something euros it is to upgrade the room. After back and forth the lady went up with us to check the room where she seen the ants for herself, she said she will talk to her boss and come back. She returned and let us know we can be moved room
Although I am grateful for the change of room I am so unbelievably disappointed and feel as though we were treated so so poorly and disrespectfully
This back and forth went on for 1.5 hours before we...
Read moreI’ve been to Elba Sunset the 5th time. I really enjoyed the first stays and recommended the hotel to everyone because I found it to be an outstanding experience. Sadly, the image of the hotel, which in my opinion once was one of a luxurious boutique spa hotel, changed and the service has subsided enormously. Positive: Direct and private access to the sea. There’s hardly anyone going to this spot so most of the time you’ve got this lovely spot for yourself Room view is amazing, if you choose rooms with sea view Nice pool areas Amazing view over the mediterranean Sea Staff is nice The fitness area is equipped well and also has sea view As the direct surroundings of the hotel is designed for tourism only, there is a bus stop that you can reach within a 15 minute walk to explore the island The hotel had severe problems with electricity which went out all the time but they solved the problem with a generator real quick Negative: The rooms are definitely not soundproof. You not only hear and understand almost every word of your direct neighbors, but also the guest above you and the speaker in the floor, that plays loud music throughout the whole day The rooms are meanwhile (!) equipped with the absolute bare minimum. Before this stay we had body lotion, shampoo and bathroom necessities like a toothbrush and stuff in each room. Now there’s only one bottle of an allround product in the shower and that’s it. No toilet brush, no mini bar, etc. The cleanliness has totally decreased in the whole hotel. At my arrival there was a whipped cream bottle in the mini bar. Beds are done every day and towels get exchanged if you wish. But that’s almost it. Also this time almost all the glasses, plates and bowls at the morning buffet were dirty. Seemed like they came dirty out of the dishwasher. Furthermore the pool area wasn’t cleaned throughout the day. So if you went there in the afternoon the floor, tables and lounger were often dirty and sticky from cocktail leftovers from people who used them before. Balinese daybeds (the white ones with front sea view) were free back then, now they charge a lot of money for it Talking about the food, I always only booked breakfast and sometimes visited the restaurant “The Bow”. The breakfast buffet is sufficient in quality and selection but without any highlights. The food in the restaurant is more of snack quality. If the approach is just to get your stomach stuffed, you’ll do fine going there. For taste experience you’ll be disappointed. The view is nice though. Also, and that might be personal preference, I didn’t enjoy the entertainment bookings of the hotel at all this time. In the morning they often offered dance/ yoga lessons. This is generally no bad idea. But I did not understand at all why they did so at the pool area (not using the pool) with super loud music, so that you can not chill or relax. (Especially because you could also do it on the first floor terrace, which is never used). Same goes for the bands that played in front of the pool. It all had non-luxury animation character and I did not enjoy it at all. The times I’ve been there before this time, they played chilled kind of coffee house and lounge music in low volume at the pool area only. That was lovely to relax to. I remember that they once had a DJ (he was there this time as well) for like two hours who also played some of this relaxing music which all in all fitted perfectly fine to this luxury spa atmosphere. Last but not least, and I don’t want to sound hyper cocky, I think that guests attending breakfast in bikini only or groups of adult guest doing laola waves with noisy bawling at their table as I experienced during this stay feels odd and out of place. I know the hotel doesn’t chooses their guests but at least they could have said something than just ignoring it, mainly because they tell you in writing to visit the restaurant in appropriate clothing. All in all the prices for one night increased with every time, yet they cancel more and more service and amenities. Last...
Read moreUPDATE: We received a call from the management during our stay. Following the conversation, we were provided with a toilet brush, and the fridge in our room was replaced. As a gesture of goodwill, we were offered a voucher for two complimentary cocktails to make up for the inconvenience.
It was also agreed that from that point onward, housekeeping would properly clean the room, and that a dirty cup — which had previously been placed back as if it were clean — would be replaced.
Unfortunately, despite this agreement, the toilet, shower, and sink were never cleaned once during our entire 8-day stay. The dirty cup also remained in the room until the very last day. Very disappointing.
In general, the hotel’s cleanliness left much to be desired: elevators were visibly dirty, and tables in the pool area were often sticky and unclean.
Moreover, the in-room telephone did not work at any point during our stay. This is extremely concerning, especially in the context of potential emergencies such as a fire — from a safety perspective, this is simply unacceptable.
In the pool area, guests are only allowed to receive one towel per person, and the towel is far too short to fully cover the sunbed. Lying directly on the hot surface with bare skin was very uncomfortable. We pointed this out, but were told that hotel policy allows only one towel per guest.
It’s a real shame, because the hotel itself and the view are truly beautiful. However, the overall experience is heavily overshadowed by the lack of — or in many cases, completely absent — service.

To the Management – our stay continues for 4 more days: Please take this feedback seriously and make noticeable improvements. We are open to revising our review if things improve.
Pros: • Beautiful view from the hotel.
Cons:
Pool Area: • No visible service staff. • No guidance on where to find available sunbeds – guests have to figure it out themselves. • Sometimes all sunbeds are taken. • Unreliable towel service: often no staff present, and you’re sent to the reception to collect towels. • Many sunbeds lack umbrellas – guests have to find and carry them on their own while staff watch without offering help. • No service at the Sky Pool: no towels, no instructions on where to return them after use. • No drinks menu or QR code at the sunbeds – this should be standard in a 4-star hotel.
Breakfast: • No bottled still water included – disappointing considering the room price.
Room Service: • Our room was not cleaned – we had to go to reception again because the phone hasn’t worked for days. Even after reminding staff, the floor and the toilet were not cleaned. • The water in the minibar is not replenished The fridge doesn’t cool properly – drinks stay lukewarm. • Poor room layout – very noisy, no privacy, no toilet brush in the bathroom.
Underground Parking: • €18 per day is very expensive. • Despite booking for the entire stay, a note was left on our car asking for payment – another trip to reception. • You have to get out of the car to scan your key card at the gate – inconvenient and poorly designed.
Room Key Card: • The key card stops working after contact with mobile phones, which already forced us to go back to the reception multiple times just to access our room again. Very frustrating.
Conclusion: A 4-star hotel should make the stay easier, not harder. Unfortunately, we’re experiencing the opposite. We’ve had to go to reception multiple times because things aren’t working or are simply missing – cleaning, towels, or technical issues. Everything has to be organized by the guest – there is practically no service. This does not meet the standard we are used to from similar hotels.
We truly hope that you take this feedback seriously and use the remaining days of our stay to make meaningful improvements. In that case, we would be willing to...
