First time visiting this hotel, I went with my husband we’re both in our 30’s and then also my parents who are in their 60’s. In terms of location this hotel is perfectly situated in Cala Galdana. Right by the beach and small marina, and easy to walk to all the shops and the local bars/restaurants. When we first arrived it felt like the hotel was more suited to the older generation however throughout our stay we started to notice younger guests similar to our age arriving. On our very first day it lacked atmosphere around the pool but then after that first day they had background music (similar to what you get in some of the spas in the uk), this definitely helped. We had a room in the main hotel, it was classed as a limited sea view but we had a lovely view of the sea, marina and it overlooked the pool we were in room 204. The rooms have been modernised and refurbed to a high standard. The only downside is the noise! We didn’t get too much noise from the neighbouring rooms, but as we overlooked the pool and the stage it meant there was no chance of an early night due to the sound from the show. But one bonus was that you could watch the show from the room balcony. Each room came with a hair dryer and fridge too! Really handy for putting bottles of water in there. ||Due to the heat and little wind we spent the majority of our time around the pool. On the first day we arrived you could go down at 11/12 and get a sun lounger. But then the days after that people would queue until the pool opened at 9am to go and get the sun loungers. Luckily I was with a parent who was always super organised and always up early so we never had an issue getting a sun lounger. However I did overhear some other UK guests moaning that they didn’t get the spots they wanted, and I also saw people pointing to where they wanted to go whilst guests were sat there and then moaning. Like come on, seriously? I could say that it’s highly likely that we were one of the youngest guests there yet the older guests acted like children some days. If you want a sun lounger in a certain spot, get up and make sure you’re first in line and then you’ll have it. Don’t just expect to come down whenever and then moan that someone else has ‘taken your spot’ at the end of the day it’s just a sun lounger, there were plenty of places people could sit. The last day the 16th September seemed a lot better and there were plenty of sun loungers again at 11/12 similar to our first day.||In terms of entertainment I must give a shout out to Marios and Diego. They work so hard. We regularly tried to take part in the activities they provided such as the yoga, stretching, bingo etc. It was a real shame that they always had very few people taking part. Again I don’t know if this comes down to the age range of the guests that were there when we were there. But we enjoyed getting involved, even if sometimes it was just us in the stretching class or yoga class. I know my parents, Lorna and Andy loved taking part in the activities (including the excursion to the beach! :D ) ||We had booked half board, and although the stay was a reasonable price for a 4 star hotel I was really dubious as to what the standard of food would be for someone with dietary requirements after reading previous reviews. I can see that the hotel has rolled out an electronic sign system telling you what the dishes are, but this is not that helpful, it would’ve been better to see the ingredients in each dish. I am a vegetarian for example and one night I had the vegetable lasagna, I then cut into it and found tuna! The same had happened on a different night with some noodles. Then annoyingly when I did find food I could eat, one of the other guests then used the same tongs to pick up the vegetarian stuff and then used it to pick up fish and mussels!! Seemed like all common sense had gone out the window. I know the stupidity of other guests can’t be helped, but maybe having all the vegetarian stuff together would be better instead of mixed amongst the meat/fish dishes. Similar to the gluten free section. There was not much choice at all for vegetarians and I more or less had the same every night - salad, pasta and sometimes pizza. With the exception of Saturday where they had a themed night with Chinese food and Mexican food. I did however have a lovely vegetarian meal in the Oasis bar and when you first check in you get a voucher for 10% off your first visit there. The supermarket down the road also does the most amazing subway style sandwiches for 3 euros, this was a great alternative for food in the daytime. ||To finish off the review I also wanted to mention one of the maintenance guys we encountered on our very first day on Weds 10th September. We had arrived early so our luggage was in the store room. It was getting quite hot so we went to get some shorts out of our bags and that’s when my husband found out that the lock had broke on his brand new suitcase! A lovely maintenance guy had passed us whilst he was doing his jobs and had said if we need help to just ask at reception. We tried for around 10 minutes but we just couldn’t get the case unlocked, he then passed us again and we asked for help. He took the case and then five minutes later he came back and had cut the metal zip handles really neatly so the majority of it was still stuck in the lock but it had freed up the zip and then he put two small metal rings on the zip so we could then open and close the case. This could’ve been a disaster on day one of the holiday, but due to his skills and his care and attention, he salvaged my husbands case. And we were so appreciative, just annoyed we didn’t manage to get his name. But it was around 11:30am on Weds 10th September in the room close to the lifts to the side of reception where we stored the luggage. ||Overall a good week away with my husband, and parents. Would I come back, yes if it was at the right price however I feel as the flight is only two hours from the UK a shorter break maybe better such as 4/5 days. As Cala Galdana is small, you can only go into the shops and bars so many times before it gets boring and repetitive. During our week we did venture out to El Toro and the Citudella but we still found a week to be just a...
Read moreTruly honest review of our experience at the hotel, we are currently on our last night of a 8 night stay. Overall, we have had a great holiday but some minor negatives to note but overall really positive. First impressions pulling up to the hotel from the coach were better than expected going from pictures online, nice clean, big airy entrance lobby with two members of staff on the reception. Reception staff were really welcoming and in particular there was a lady working behind the reception desk who related to us straight away as her baby was the same age as our baby. Everything was explained to us and check in was really speedy! We made our way to our room and we are currently staying in 535. Small room but really clean, modern and had everything we needed. To note, as I have looked online prior but couldn’t find information. a cot was provided and was waiting in the room on arrival complete with bedding which was a really nice touch as previously at other accommodation’s we have had to ask for a cot or wait for it to be delivered to the room. Only downside to the room was one of the beds, the mattress is awful for me personally as it is extra firm, it has felt like sleeping on concrete but the other bed in the room is fine. Admittedly I haven’t mentioned this to reception as I didn’t want to cause any hassle. The pool area was clean, well looked after. We didn’t use any other facilities including the gym or the sauna. The food at the hotel was hit and miss but I think the reason for this being is, as the season is coming to an end and the hotel shuts tomorrow it felt like the menu was really repetitive in comparison to reviews I have read before booking the holiday. Food was luke warm albeit the food I had was of good quality. The highlight for the hotel was the staff in the restaurant area in particular Jesus, Oscar and pepa. Absolutely fantastic and an absolute asset to the hotel. Nothing was ever too much, really attentive, professional but also took the time to speak to us regardless of the language barrier at times. The negative to note was today 30/10/25 the hotel staff were starting to close down the hotel ready for season end and at the pool bar the staff were so transfixed on deep cleaning and removing sun beds from around the pool ect that it almost gave a feeling that we was ‘just in the way’. Speaking to other families around the pool the feeling was mutual. Around mid day it started to rain so naturally everyone from around the pool went for lunch and the outdoor seating became full. We decided to buy sandwiches from the shop as the hotel did not have much food to serve as the stocks had been run down. We was unable to get a seat outside so we sat in the lobby infront of the bar. As we opened our sandwiches the man from behind the lobby bar started saying something about a manager and came out from behind the bar and said “no food, the boss will be watching on the cctv and pointed at the cctv camera above the bar. Then said something about him wearing a suit and if we see him to hide our food” I told the guy behind the bar if the manager has a problem then to come and see me as there is no where to sit outside and there is next to no food being prepared to be cooked or left at the pool side bar’ then another guest came in to the lobby and asked if he could order food and he said no, speak to pool bar manager. The pool bar manager then came in to the lobby after speaking with the guest outside and brought him in cutlery, place mats and sauces and allowed him to eat in the lobby. So why is it one rule for one and not for the other? So if I eat a packet of crisp in the lobby then is the hotel manager going to come and tell me off? I’d dread to think how they keep up with the demand when the hotel is at capacity and there is no room for people to eat when they clearly struggle with next to no guests in the hotel. Finally, the WiFi worked great for the first 3/4 days of our stay on the 5th level and then stopped working. Other guests we spoke to said the same. At dinner service tonight review cards were left on all tables and then suddenly the WiFi is working again? Frustrating. Overall great hotel, apart from the atmosphere on the last day of feeling an inconvience. I would of been inclined to give 5 star if it wasn’t for the atmosphere and experiences of...
Read moreWe stayed for 10 nights at Minura, end of July to beginning of August. First time and first time in Menorca. This was quite a last minute holiday for us due to personal circumstances, I usually do ALOT of research which is why I always try to leave a thorough and accurate review. I'll start with the hotel. Location is great, Cala Galdan is nice, beach is literally a 2 min walk and gorgeous, perfect calm waters for families. Cala Galdana isn't lively, so dont come here to party. The River bar next door is great and has shuffleboard whihc is frustrating and enjoyable in equal measure. The hotel itself, perfectly fine, average hotel I'd say, I did see one review or comment saying it was luxury. I wouldn't call it luxury but it's nice enough and extremely clean, can not fault the cleanliness! The rooms in the hotel have been renovated recently. Nice and modern. Equipped with a kettle, hairdryer, fridge (which isn't actually very cold, an energy saving measure I assume) safe etc. We stayed in a room with limited sea view. The room was pretty small. We had a 3rd bed in it so without that it probably would have been OK. They do not have balconies. The bathrooms are fine except for the bathroom door, which is glass and doesn't actually shut properly, a design not a fault. So you know, not too much privacy! The pools are pretty small for the size of the hotel. They are right on the street but you get used to that. You are not allowed inflatables in the pool. And if it's windy, which it tends to be in Menorca, you are not allowed your sun shades up either (even though the life guard will sit there under his). The pool area doesn't open until 9am (shuts at 7pm) and it was always easy to get a lounger, surprisingly. They are lots quite squashed in around the pool though. Big plus for this pool is it is accessible, if that's something you need. It has a ramp into it and they seemed to have a wheelchair specifically for the pool for you to use. The food was acceptable. A little repetitive (except on Saturday night when they have anything and everything). There were lots of weird breaded, deep fried things and lots of veal. The food cooked by the chef at the end of the dining hall was nice, fresh fish fillets etc. The lasagne and pasta sauce were delicious. Ironically the Spanish rice was bland. Ice cream in the restaurant was also very nice. Another plus, they had a variety of milks at breakfast, lactose free, oat and maybe soya. And they also had a gluten free range at breakfast and dinner. We enjoyed playing darts and pool in the lighthouse bar. The evening entertainment was ok, certainly not the best I've seen on holidays, but ok. BUT and this is my biggest gripe. On both Tui and jet2 it says this has a daytime entertainment programme. It really doesn't, well, certainly nothing worth booking this hotel for. We saw a couple of entertainment guys a few times, speak to a handful of people by the pool. One spoke to us one day, as we just got out the pool to say they were leaving on an excursion in 7-8 minutes if we wanted to join them!! Seriously. They did absolutely nothing that I could see with the kids, except a mini disco in the piano bar. I saw the dark haired guy with glasses mostly approach Spanish adults! Not sure what he said to them and I'm honestly not sure what they get paid for and the 'break' on their timetable is laughable. My 12 year old really, really missed having some organised activities. There's also not much room around the hotel (and it is very open to the road) to have a kick about with a ball or anything. So if you have child, especially slightly older that like some games to get involved in etc then this isn't for you. Infact I would say this hotel is really better for older couples, childless couples or families with...
